I just have to make a correction. First of all, I am a black Southerner doing a lot of research for a possible book about post Civil War in the United States. And Chinese immigrants arrived in the United States long before Italian- immigrants. There were several Chinese immigrants that volunteered the fight for the Union to end slavery during the Civil War.

Your comment is vague, Italian and Chinese immigrants may have arrived in the Americas a few decades apart but none the less still in the 1800’s, also Christopher Columbus was Italian, and he brought Italian immigrants to the Americas in the 1500’s. Good luck with your book man. 🤙
@theylied1776

@@jacos.870 Nope, my comment is not vague at all. Chinese immigrants started coming to the United States in the early 1800s. Chinese immigrants were in California when Spain owned it, and they were in New York, Louisiana, Oregon, and Florida in the early 1800s. They didn't have mass immigration, but they were still here 60 to 70 years before Italian immigrants started coming to the United States. Also, Christopher Columbus never landed in the continental United States. He only made it as far as the Caribbean. The Vikings (Norwegians) were the first Europeans to land in the continental United States.

There were Chinese who fought on both sides. Many of them came to the US by way of Western sailors who went to China and was given western names from those families.

Little Italy is far from being rescued. Especially with NYC current Pandemic rules for restaurants and public assembly. I just don't see a renaissance of "real" Italian food rescuing the area. It would have to be a large influx of Regional Italian cooks focusing on the FOOD and not nostalgic homogenous decor.

Traditional regional Italian food from Italy is amazing....American Italian food is totally different, fusing it with Asian is just a complete no no to me. Guys you need to travel to Italy and goto each region to discover. It's like trying Chinese food in Italy where it's chow mein and sweet and sour.
