I think you are very wrong on George Galloway and the Workers Party. You know he's been speaking up for Palestine for over 50 years, and is the biggest advocate for Palestine in the UK. Muslims need to work with like-minded non-Muslims under an umbrella such as the Workers Party to progress. Stop dividing the Palestine issue into a Muslim and non-Muslim issue, it's an humanitarian issue.

Talking to my liberal MP in Canada is so frustrating and exhausting. She projects empathy on Gaza but refuses to take actions and speak publicly. You realize how these politicians do not really care about facts, morality and it is pure political calculation and prejudice. Gaza opened my eyes on the corruption of our political class. I will not accept such MPs representing me going forward. We must bring in better people.

As a resident of Hallgreen, one cannot view the area as a monolithic Muslim "ghetto,". also local politics played a significant role in the situation. In essence from my observation and conversations I deduced: 1. The two vote splitters are personally acquainted on a familial level, involving a Bradri Dispute. Their candidacies were not motivated by issues related to Palestine, but they both had intention to run pre-genocide. 2. Afsar received support from South Birmingham Central Mosque, while Hafeez, the chair of Woodlands Road Mosque, faced considerable animosity from Afsar's camp, despite both being from the Brelvi community. Having said that, Afsar was prepared to step down but was propped up and somewhat manipulated by SBC against Hafeez, who had previously taken over Woodlands Road Mosque. 3. Hafeez conducted a different type of campaign, attracting voters from areas like Mosley and Kings Heath-constituencies Afsar could not reach, particularly among the left-leaning Corbynites. The Hallgreen constituency is more complex than it appears, tracing back to Salma Yaqoob's near-win in the 2000s, which led to redistricting. 4. Hafeez, a former Labour member, applied effective campaign strategies and achieved notable results within two months. It is unfortunate what transpired; many had hope due to the Palestine issue. However, both candidates lack competency and do not offer substantial policies for economic growth or local affairs. Hafeez's camp exhibited nepotism, with his five brothers waiting for funding opportunities, while Afsar is not sufficiently knowledgeable to make significant impacts in Parliament. In my opinion if you can't debate and negotiate among Muslims how are you going to face complete enemies in parliament. The Muslim Vote initiative, although well-intention-ed, needs to support candidates who are truly representative and possess strong optics. If such candidates are not available, we must begin investing in them now.

Thank you so much for this. Living in Canada, our election is expected in one year with an electoral process based on the British system. My hope is Muslims can take lessons from the U.K. and build on it in Canada. If you had a year to prepare what would you focus on in preparing ahead of elections? How much would you focus on trying to get good candidates within existing parties or just focus on independents?

Listening to the pre election podcasts, I think the fact that candidates were local had an important impact, so that they came across as more trustworthy and invested in the welfare of the populace they were seeking to represent. The opposite to this, which is seen amongst the big party candidates, is the idea of 'finding' someone a suitable seat, even if they have no connection to that area and that's just a recipe for career politicians. You were talking also about how it was all a big learning experience for the independent Muslim candidates and I think the same can be said for their life after election. They will need a lot of support to help them operate in parliament effectively to avoid being patronised by civil servants and researchers and to protect them from false friends.

The Muslim vote have already said they allowed 16 incumbent Muslim labour mps to go unopposed this time around. Personally, I think this is very disappointing. How can we give Labour a bloody nose when when we had the opportunity, we actually let some Labour MPs pass through and be reelected? This happened in my constituency, which was declared by Labour as a battleground, with a 21% Muslim electorate. If the Muslim Vote had actually endorsed someone instead of remaining neutral then we could have had another independent MP.

Interesting learnings and discussions. I think George Galloway was one where The Moslem Vote and the Moslem populus should have supported and backed more. The man has a track record of supporting Palestine & he was the most despised candidate (with Corbyn) by the msm and Parliament. His gravitas, oratory and international connections means he will be sorely missed in Parliament. Craig Murray and Andrew Feinstein were also exceptional candidates that when they speak they add something extra to when a well-meaning but less experienced Moslem candidate/voices will speak in Parliament. The likes of Murray and Feinstein’s voice projects beyond the Moslem community. Also would a high calibre Shia Moslem candidate (or some other demonination) get support from TMV and the Moslem populous? It should be the single best independent/progressive candidate that Moslem’s should support - this is when Moslem’s will be taken seriously and become more influential. The inter-Moslem bickering in some areas was the other dissapointing aspect.

How about an alternate strategy - based on universal values and by addressing the intrinsic problems within the community neighborhoods. Isn’t this a better unifying platform not just amongst the Muslims but even with the larger community. Support for Muslim candidates based on how they solve the local problems, giving back to the community. Im sure everybody irrespective of religion are fed up with hypocrites. Who show up every few years and beg for their bote and serve their own interests or that of their corporate donors. People are looking for alternative candidates who would , if elected, would represent their interests. This is one way to even counter that the sectarianism within the Muslim community

I would like to invite you to look at the fate of the Fallachas (also called beta Israel) , which were exported from Ethiopia to Israel in around the eighties by the israéliens government and then few years later they were unwanted and disposed of to Rwanda. They had to flee from Rwanda concentration back to Ethiopia. In the eighties, all Western medias were publicising the humanitarian concerns and care of Israel towards all Jews in the world. Sending the Fallachas to Rwanda inspired the UK government to deport illegal migrant there.
