@BVBloom
3 жыл бұрын
Economically speaking, Gen X was largely complacent; they were happy to slide along on boomer coattails before shit got REAL bad, which is what millennials got hit with and had the audacity to get upset about. The Silent Gen are mostly in their 80's and 90's; They lived through a World War and the aftermath of The Great Depression. They've seen and experienced real, backbreaking hardship, and now they're really old and very tired and just want to be left the hell alone.

@BVBloom

@@dizzigirl11 So you personally were unlucky. Doesn't change the fact that most of your generation did ok enough to keep their heads down and their blinders on, both professionally and politically. Most of you took what work you could, whether blue collar or white, did what your bosses expected of you without complaint no matter how unreasonable your workload became, and then you went home exhausted to your beer and your football and maybe a spouse you didn't have the energy to really be with and kids you didn't have the resources to really raise. You didn't pay attention to politics because why; you've got more immediate concerns, and your vote has never really mattered, has it, and even if it did, the politicians are all the same. You haven't made time to find out who's running or what their platforms are, but still, they're all the same, so why bother? While your generation spent decades in their miserable little grinds, politics polarized, corporations became people in the eyes of the law, and police became ever more violent and militarized. Women's reproductive rights, the history taught in our schools, even the basic understanding that vaccines save lives...it's all gone sideways; systemic toxicity has been building for the last thirty-odd years, and now we've hit a critical mass point. And yes, part of why we are where we are now is Gen X complacency. You let the Boomers tell you that all you had to do was work a bit harder, pull up those bootstraps up a bit higher, and all would be well. And hey, to your credit, most of Gen X was able to scrape some semblance of a life together, and if you squinted at it just right, it vaguely resembled the shiny American Dream we've all been spoonfed since preschool, so what is there to complain about, really? You're swimming in debt and you're a shell of a person, but your American Dream is right there, see, look at it, quick, before the light changes! Your generation was sold a fiction, and most of you bought right into it, even as it shrank and dimmed and crumbled down around you. And you stayed quiet.
@chanceDdog2009

@@BVBloom dam str8 We stayed quiet! We did what we had too . And so will you. If you want to be a hero go for it. Though most heroes die in the stories of social justice. No matter your generation , you have to do what is best for you and your family. Gen x is the apathy generation. In that we didnt care what Boomer's thought and we don't care what latter generations think about us either . It's not a lack of empathy. It's the world we grew up in. If you know better than us. Try having Boomer parents and being between Millennial and Gen X. You have the anger and depression of the millennial, the humor of an X, and the boomer parents to tell you that you need to get your act together. IRL: My parents are great though and have really mellowed out. My mom is seeing my paychecks and housing prices and hasn't commented on me moving out ever since. When the topic does come up she takes my side and says that there's no shame building a decent savings while freeloading a bit at home longer. 😁
