"I shall hear in heaven" - one of Beethoven's last words

Makes me cry to watch, listen to this part of this film, the spoken words. Beethoven lost his hearing due to Paget's Disease of Bone. An autopsy performed after his death exposed bone overgrowth in his skull, over growth in his ears. I can imagine the bone pain in his skull over the years.

Really? I read that he died of lead poisoning, according to test on his hair. Possibly the cause of his deafness.

At 2:22 Beethoven screams "STOP!" at the ringing in his ears. I think I can understand how he felt. My left ear has been ringing since 1986. It's gotten worse in recent years. There's nothing I can do about it.

I love beethovens music, but I feel bad he never heard his EPIC Symphony no. 5 or his Pastoral Symphony no. 6 or his 7th symphony his 8th or even his 9th symphony A.K.A Beethovens Finale Symphony and he composed all of them

Amy Milsten - Yeah, I wish he was able to hear his music. I'm sure he'd be very pleased if he could hear it like he did before being in his late 20's when he was starting to lose his hearing.

He could still write such great music. I think he knew what it sounded like. So he heard it.

He was able to hear it in his mind. How else would he be able to compose masterpieces like that?

He could hear his 5th. He wasn't completly deaf. He could hear the loud parts. A lot of parts he couldn't hear though. But yes, he didn't hear the 9th (He heard it in his head).

Beethoven's life was the saddest and hardest, but his life influenced many. Including me. He experienced depression, deafness, and... later died of liver failure. You have no idea how I cried at this movie. I love it. He did not deserve this! I wish he had lived longer! The last thing I want to do, before I die, is to visit his house in Germany. If he was alive today, I will say to him, "I LOVE YOUR MUSIC, BEETHOVEN! YOU ARE BETTER THAN LISZT OR MOZART OR CHOPIN OR MAHLER OR ALKAN OR POP MUSIC!!"

My quote for Beethoven: "One of the best musicians in the world, he loved music even though he could not hear it. That's why we should thank him for this wonderful music he brought to us. With all our love we say to you Beethoven: We love you!" - Manga Creator

Beethoven's music is absolutely brilliant. I wish he could have heard the rest of his music. I've played a couple of his pieces. They are not easy, but worth the challenge. He didn't deserve this horrible disease.

i have the idea that beethoven could hear the symphony if they play loud enough like at a concert you can feel the bass vibrate your chest even if you a little deaf can still "feel" the music haha in heaven, God promises to give us new bodies when we go up there and see beethoven praise the lord with his music i would like to see him with his hearing restored lovely!

Beethoven's deafness was an connected to his history of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. His letters in the 1790s mention frequent bouts of incapacitating diarrhea accompanied by severe weight loss. When the hearing loss became pronounced enough that he sought medical help, the doctor told him 'the problem with your ears begins in your stomach'. While understanding the autoimmune process behind both IFB and antibody cross-reactivity with cochlear and semi-circular canal mucosa was nearly 200 years off, the gross connection had been made. Most people with IFB suffer from some hearing loss, usually in the upper register.

Disappointing that a video about deafness has such bad closed-captioning. "I state my price" = "mistake my price", "I don't go out in public" = "I don't count in public", "poultices" = "POTUS is"... I guess it's automated CC which is better than nothing, and I can't expect that everyone will create closed captions for their videos, but I just wish that when the video is about deafness, they would make a little more effort...
