The geographic concept of location can be defined as the place where something is situated. When describing the positions of places on the earth’s surface, there are two ways of describing this: Absolute location and relative location.
Absolute location is the exact coordinate of a specific point on the earth. The main coordinate system used to pinpoint absolute location is latitude and longitude coordinates. Other forms of absolute location include street addresses or the grid reference system that is used on topographic maps.
Relative location is a way of describing the location of a place relative to the location of other places. For example how many kilometres it takes to drive to another place or how many hours it takes to drive somewhere.
