I life in northern Germany and ordered an XBUS van. I was in Itzehoe where they showed the prototype. It is a really impressive vehicle which offers more space inside than other, even larger vehicles. It has permanent all-wheel drive, with one engine in each wheel. It has a standard German 230 volts power output which could be used for any electric tool, household stuff or whatever you like. I could run my fridge on it for at least ten days in an emergency. It is more than a vehicle, it is also a small solar power plant with battery storage. If I don´t need a car for some days, the solar generated energy could be used elsewhere around the house. But it is not a car. It only charges slow and the 600 km range which they are advertising are the biggest battery pack (which will cost additional 6.400€) and only at average city speed (35 km/h). On WLTP range is quite less. It also can not exceed 100 km/h (which would redce range far more) and thats quite slow for the German Autobahn. It would mean you drive with an electric light vehicle (which does not provide the same crash safety as a car) between 40-ton trucks on the right lane for most of the time. I think everyone should keep this in mind. Never the less, it is a exciting vehicle.

Sorry to say this but you will be disappointed if you have any idea about marketing and engineering and will notice that this project is a fraud. They are not just lying about the range they are really scamming people who will be disappointed afterwards. mathematically with this aerodynamic shape and surface area you will be lucky if you get the 300km range with the largeest battery(The larger battery is expensive!). In reality, this thing is only good for maybe your parents that have a driving radius of 50km and feel nostalgic when they think about their VW T2. And the second good thing is that the x-bus could decrease the price of the vw id.buzz and other competitors which would be awesome. For me this is a bulky e-bike :D You are right, this is not German engineering, this is just money making with emotions... Sad story :(
@BlocksPlayTV

The changeable battery modules would fix this issue but they will be expensive too so you are better of with a Nissan nv-200 at the moment... But every electric van is overpriced, hell if you can convert your own old vw with a faulty engine it is better than everything on the market right now.

I need a car to get from home to work in the cold season, and get groceries on the way back. From there, I look for what kind of additional possibilities are worth the money. A trailer hook is a nobrainer, it always pays off over the lifetime of a car. Enough seating for the close family is another one, though the exact number of seats might differ depending upon the number of people in the family close enough to put all of them together in one car frequently enough. With an E-car enough battery life to reach frequent destinations with no more stops than I want to make breaks anyway. Then some luxury that‘s cheap enough to be worth it - manual AC but not automatic AC, leather on the steering wheel but not on the seats, enough power to move the car effortlessly but not sportive. That‘s it, why would I want more? I understand that there are people around who dream about special cars. But for me, my car is a tool to get me to places I need or want to be, and to be only occasionally uncomfortable on the way there.
@mikethespike7579

Tesla is just too over engineered for me. I don't need door handles that automatically fold in and out of the door. I don't need heating that automatically turns on when it's cold, air conditioning that turns on when it gets hot, windscreen wipers that automatically start wiping when it rains or headlights that switch themselves on when it's dark. I don't need a car that keeps itself in its lane or constantly warns me when I'm exceeding the speed limit or go over a solid white line. All that stuff tends to break before the end of life of the vehicle and besides, I have a brain to do all that myself. One of the EVs in this footage sounds like something for me.

great innovations in the EV world , the Sion is solving a " low hanging fruit " problem , its seems inevitable that this solar panel option will become the de facto standard in the future ( in sunny countries ) , like what's the environmental impact of producing paint ? and the elephant in the room as I understand stand it , is what are we going to do with all these batteries when they reach their sell by date , suppose we'll got through the same innovative iterative process , meanwhile we are at 412ppm carbon emissions , Nevertheless it is shaking up the big 4 in Germany , I note that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 won the car of the year Germany , that should set the tone at the very least !

The buttons overtaking the steering wheel look obnoxious, crowded and rushed, and the electric steering might be a tad much for me. Electronics fail much more than steering wheels do. If something happens, I want to be in control of where the vehicle is going so that tech is going to need to convince some people.

I’m really interested in the Xbox because it’s modularity. If those were those who don’t know it can cost up to $10,000 to modify a vehicle to be used by a wheelchair user. I'm driving for the last 2 and a half years in an eNiro and love it. It's the luxury version with 64kWh battery and the heat pump. When I look to my use of the car, daily travel of 110km for work, PV panels on the roof. Now and then a weekend away in a hotel or B&B I think the xBus concept would be better and less luxury acceptable. I would go for the campervan with max batteries. For daily use I would let most of the batteries at home so they can charge with solar power and switch at the evening with the used ones. When doing a long trip just installing all of them. Daily weight of the car would be less so much more efficient. Always carrying a sleeping/living/working place gives you more freedom feeling and not only in the weekends. I've to say that the kids are grown up and have their own family and living environment to look after.
