It used to be a small mining town in the heart of Gemer, now in the Rožňava district, founded by German immigrants, the so-called Carpathian Germans. The Germans built the town together with Hungarians and Slovaks and worked together in the mines. Gradually the town was depopulated during the 20th century, most of all after the fall of the Iron Curtain, when the last mine closed, leaving a heap of asbestos in Dobšiná. Today it is a town with a high proportion of Roma and not enough jobs. The location itself is also unfortunate. What is the economic history of Dobšiná?The German pride of mining in Gemera became the Black Hole. The story of Dobšiná
