The white residue within the truss rod access is most likely buffing compound. The slight halo around the headstock abalone flames is caused by the glue used to secure the abalone pieces. Just a little squeeze-out glue residue on the flamed veneer will prevent the dye/stain from fully penetratingly. Such a beautiful instrument, even though it is a Crimson Grade Guitar it still exhibits all the characteristic build traits found on all Gibson. Congrats on a beautiful one of one.

That's the thing though... the white is under the finish. I'm sure that could be a possible explanation, but it really seems like the effect was intentionally done on the 4 flame inlays

@@Trog It very well could be, no doubt about it, the halo effect looks intentional. So many small and beautiful details on this instrument, again, congrats Sir, very, very nice. My next statement may sound strange to some..........The tape line on the fingerboard binding, I actually appreciate that as that's the product of how Gibson builds guitars. The finish has traditionally always pushed above the binding line. Little details like that make it 100% a Gibson. Even in the Crimson Division, they are still building Gibson's using the traditional processes. Its details like that which really endear Gibson's guitars to me.

As I’m looking it over in awe, I do see some less than perfect finish work on the clear coat as you mentioned, some warpy looking “not quite orange peel” under the string area by the pickups. I’ve noticed a bunch of the super high end Gibson’s with this. Part of me thinks, well.. this is part of proof of hand craftsmanship… but the other part of me is like… but I’ve seen 1600 dollar les Paul’s that didn’t have it. So it confuses me a bit on how to feel. All that to the side, it is a gorgeous work of art. I’m particularly wondering if the choice of dragon was a direct slam at PRS? I know they’ve tried to sue PRS in the past over the single cutaway, so I can’t help but wonder if this was a little stab at them haha? Probably not, but Who knows? The red stain is unbelievable, that inlay job is mind blowing!!
