"The Girl from Ipanema", is a Brazilian bossa nova and jazz song. It was a worldwide hit in the mid-1960s and won a Grammy for Record of the Year in 1965. It was written in 1962, with music by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Portuguese lyrics by Vinícius de Moraes. English lyrics were written later by Norman Gimbel.
Tall and tan and young and lovely,
The girl from Ipanema goes walking,
And when she passes
Each one she passes goes "a-a-ah!"
When she walks she's like a samba that,
Swings so cool and sways so gentle,
That when she passes
Each one she passes goes "a-a-ah!"
Oh, but you watch her so sadly,
How can he tell her he loves her?
Yes, he would give his heart gladly
But each day when she walks to the sea,
She looks straight ahead not at him
Tall and tan and young and lovely,
The girl from Ipanema goes walking,
And when she passes
He smile, but she doesn't see,
She just doesn't see,
No she doesn't see
