On goalkeepers as captains, I've always refused the captaincy when offered it. My view is that the goalkeeper should always be a leader anyway and that it's always more beneficial for the team for an outfielder to take that responsibility to step up their own game OR encourage others to step up. Need to have multiple strong personalities on the pitch and goalkeepers generally are naturally strong personalities so it would be a waste of the armband most of the time to give it to the keeper

I probably have a bit more input watching him as a Stoke fan. He was very close to Gordon Banks who sadly passed. That, along with his injury and along with relegation to the Championship really effected him. I think it was just a culmination of bad events. He lost his confidence, made errors he never used to make. His ability is one of the best I've seen in a Stoke top. I really hope someday he recovers from the mental side of things. If Guaita gets injured he needs to take his chance for his own good. If he gets on a roll he can rekindle his old form.
@michaelwallace9256

@@thomasbevan2324 you think he would benefit from a sports psychologist? As a outsider it quizzes me why move to Crystal Palace when they have a clear number 1. He is 28 peak years for a goalkeeper. You think we will ever see him in a England shirt again?
@thomasbevan2324
2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelwallace9256 I would have thought he would already be having some kind of psychology already. Guaita is a good keeper and Palace are doing excellent at the moment. I think it would take an injury for him to get his chance and when he does I think he needs to take it. Don't think we will see him in an England top though. I believe once Ramsdale ousts Pickford, he will be the England keeper for a good decade. Ramsdale actually went to the same school as me and I was in the same year as his brother Edward. Edward was a very good gymnast and trampolinist. So flexibility clearly runs in the family!

Really admire the interviewing technique on all of the Fozcast videos. You see some people cutting in a lot to try and ask questions or to get a conversation to flow and it doesn't matter whether they are talking to people they know really well or not, there isn't that at all. That was one of the best podcast episodes I’ve listened to for a while… I was a left winger all through my youth days and transitioned into a left back into my mid twenties up to semi pro level… but in school or kicking about with mates I always wanted to go in goal, and played in goal for school sides at 5 a side tournaments etc… my only problem about being a keeper full time was I was too short hahaha… but even in them days I enjoyed playing the way the keepers of today play… sweepers, getting involved in build up, being super comfortable and confident in possession, which was not normal back then… because this was back in the mid 90’s by the way haha… remember the likes of Chilavert, Campos and Higuita! For me, ‘keeper is the best position on the field… I was watching a lot of the England keepers training during the Euros on KZitem and the standard now is frightening isn’t it… best young keeper I ever saw (on TV of course) was Buffon… made his debut age 17 for Parma against Juve and was MOTM and then had another blinder against AC Milan the very next week and I told my friends this kid will be the best in the world one day, and for a very long time… I think it’s rare to see a world class keeper who’s still a teenager but he was… and Donnarumma is definitely following that same path!
