PACKED with British Asian talent - Art Malik, Sacha Dhawan, Anjli Mohindra and Tony Jayawardene, ‘The Glassworker’ is Pakistan’s first animated feature to reach an international market.
Created by a new outfit - Mano Studio in Karachi, director Usman Riaz and producer Khizer Riaz (yes, they are first cousins) launched the film at the Cannes Film Festival last month.
It had its world premiere screening yesterday (June 10) at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Market and has several screenings there. It screened in Competition at what is the largest festival of its kind and runs between June 9-15 2024.
About two young people who fall for each other but whose families are diametrically opposed, Usman explained that the characters are European looking and no country is defined as such. He told the audience during the launch in Cannes that it would not have been possible to make such a film and directly reference the country.
The film is set to release in Pakistan in July and has a European sales agent in Charades.

The launch and trailer was screened at the US pavilion at Festival De Cannes on Sunday, May 18 2024.
Good luck to Mano Animation Studios and Usman and Khizer Riaz for their time in Cannes.
We will add subtitles soon!
