In June 2020, it was formally named Leleākūhonua. The discoverers state in their citation (in English and Hawaiian) that the name lele-ā-kū-honua "compares the orbit to the flight of migratory birds and evokes a yearning to be near Earth." A retrograde loops every year while it orbits.

The main reason Pluto was "demoted" to a Dwarf Planet is that there are at least THOUSANDS of these object in orbit around the Sun. The Scientific community had no real choice because if they kept Pluto as a planet there was going to be an insane number of "planets found" in the next fifty years.
@darth856

Yup. It's basically the same problem they ran into in the 1800s when they initially asigned planet status to Ceres, Vesta and Pallas but had to reclassify when they kept discovering more and more objects in the asteroid belt.

Good video, well presented. It's surprising that so many commenters seized on the definition of Pluto, not on the subject of the video. People will save themselves a lot of worry if they remember that these definitions are only a matter of convenience, not about fact. The borderline can be hazy. Four bodies with hard surfaces, the inner planets, are defined as terrestrial planets. Four planets with gaseous outer layers are defined as gas giants. A number of much smaller bodies that might otherwise resemble terrestrial planets, but are in a zone with a lot of smaller debris, are defined as dwarf planets. These definitions are just labels, not descriptions. You could, if you wanted, group the bodies differently: If you made up a group that had atmospheres and detectable geological activity you'd exclude Mercury on that basis but include Pluto. If you made up a group with large round moons you'd exclude Mercury, Venus and Mars but include Pluto. If you decided your group must have multiple moons you'd exclude Mercury, Venus and Earth but include Mars and Pluto and possibly some of its neighbours. Definitions maybe useful to identify a grouping but the grouping itself is just for convenience.

Objects like this really bring home the complexity that would be near light speed or light speed travel. Either you would need to know that nothing like this object is going to be along your path or have some way of scanning ahead and seeing such things so that your path could be adjusted. I would imagine that it would suck to fly your spacecraft into a orbiting body of this size at or near light speed although the upside would be that you would crash so fast and hard you simply would be there one moment and not the next, leaving the person on the other line asking "can you hear me now"?
@camillemerkt7134
4 жыл бұрын
yep chances are like 1 in 44,000,000,000. Guess its going to be a risk you have to take. Anyways with that speed achieved, your probes will get out their quick in every direction to to chart and quickly calculate the orbit of these objects. Now some nice shielding to negate just running into a random particle of dust would be nice.
@taras3702

Given that the Goblin exists and its orbit's extraordinary parameters has been verified, it stands to reason others like it are also out there. An aphelia of 2,300 A.U. hints that it escaped from the Hills Cloud, or inner Oort Cloud, or is migrating into it. Surely there's more of them, some of them much larger. It suggests also that the Goblin may in fact be an alien or extra-Solar visitor that found a new home in the Hills Cloud or scattered disk.

True, but that particular theory was based on incorrect data on the mass of Uranus and Neptune. With the Voyager probes giving more exact measurements, Planet X as imagined by Lovell fell away. It is of course possible that the same thing will happen here too. But at least for the moment, we have no other way to explain the strange elongated orbits of Sedna, "the Goblin" and other objects. Maybe we will find another explanation, or maybe not. Time will tell.

This just my opinion so take it for what it's worth. If there is a Planet 9 there are likely to be multiple Planet 9's. The number of Goblin or other Trans-Netunian objects is likely to be numbered in the 10s of thousands They're orbits may well be as far out as close to a lightyear. Some of them may even have been stolen from other stars during close approaches. These close approaches has may also explain the eccentricity of some of the orbits we have seen. Plus how many are in orbits inclined at very high angles to the ecliptic

Good video, there's the possibility you could find other planets between earth and our sun that would appear as a black dot with the sun shrouding the background looking through a regular digital telescope if the distance is focused correct and not looking past something , there is no fact earth is the only goldy lox zone and its zone has limits, as we know no other goldy lox zone exists, focusing in relation to an eclipse , a planet closer to the sun than earth would be difficult to see with the dark side of the planet inbeetween earth and the sun , earth always has a dark side looking at the right angle in way of the sun, with the right conditions a earth size planet covered in a global ice sheet revolving around our sun thermally heated could exist closer to our sun creating its own goldy lox zone there's no way of knowing how much of a global ice covering could expand too in mass with a gaseous cloud trapped in an expanding atmosphere expanding the mass of the planet farther
