One of the things I always loved about Jerry Goldsmith was that when you saw his name in the opening credits of a movie then, no matter how wonderful or awful the script or acting was, you were in for an acoustic treat. His choices always surprised and delighted me as a listener.

Wonderful! I've seen maybe 5% of those films (and that's being generous) but it's a testament to Jerry Goldsmith that the music is still so evocative. Hell, it even makes me want to watch a few of them - though something tells me Medicine Man should stay in its box...

Fantastic overall, but man the way you orchestrated out part of the star trek theme really highlights the brilliant contrary motion with that flip of melody into the viola/clarinet/trb with vln/fl/ob/trpt playing the inner harmony. I dont know if he actually had that in one of the uses throughout the history or not but that was a real nice recontextualization of the line for me.

I had only previously heard the 2 minutes version of this medley. Thank you for both long and short medleys. It's remarkable how many people still do not immediately recognise the name 'Jerry Goldsmith'. People do not read movie credits, or follow up by doing basic research into their favorite films. Goldsmith may have scored too many diverse films, using no instantly recognizable musical style, but I knew who he was by age 12 (1980 pre-Internet) for the simple reason that his music both stood out as often truly exceptional/innovative and also usually perfectly fit the film it supported.

I’m still catching up on all your videos, but as a Jerry Goldsmith fan like yourself, I was blown away by this medley. Not having a musical bone in my body, apart from appreciating good music, I’m always in awe of the composers skill to evoke emotions in the listener, combined with the visuals. Your medley is brilliantly arranged without slavishly crowbarring in themes as written, but weaving them in with a sense of fun and wonder all the way through, to that final statement of the Star Trek theme. Great stuff. Thanks for posting it on your channel.

As a fan of Barnaby Jones (and the theme song), I was delighted to see such a clever mingling of that theme with Basic Instinct! So many great scores: Wind and the Lion, Masada, Islands in the Stream, Rudy, Ghost and the Darkness (probably my personal favorite). Interweaving Patton and Star Trek TMP throughout was brilliant!

Most of these movies are from before I was born, I have never seen a single one of them (the only Jerry Goldsmith OSTs I know are Planet of the Apes and Alien). Somehow I still feel like I have heard these themes... Maybe because a lot of composers were inspired by him. I should probably watch some of those, starting with Star Trek, The Edge and Mulan. And props to Austin for arranging this, the way the themes interact is brilliant, the medley is evolving into different things, but not just going "here's theme A, and now here's theme B, and now...". I love how there are several things going on at once! I wonder though, did you arrange this by ear, Austin?
