I have days when it’s really good, the club in the takeaway all works and I have great shots and a good round, but every now and again I slip back into club behind me and over the top swing. Then I have to re-education my mind and slow it all up and get back into a decent back swing again. Why does this happen, is it fatigue or just body and mind being lazy?

This is common amongst every golfer and every level. We’re all guilty of doing this. Try to keep you swing thoughts short and consistent. Make sure you have a pre-shot routine that is effective and consistent but outside of this it could be fatigue or concentration !

“Noodle arms”?…. So, we do not need Peter Finch’s arm to swing the club 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣…. Love it…. “No perfect golf swing”…. You nailed it!…. Or should I say “Nailed it, guv’na…”? Any chance you would do a WITB video?

Looks good, but may I ask: is it a variant of RSS (right sided swing) this coach is teaching?

@@andycartergolf oh just a feeling, I'm no expert, you remind me of Ewan Rankine (which I have been studying) and he in turn learned his trade from Gary Edwin who taught RSS ... just speculating. It's probably not wise to mix teachings from very different coaches ...

Good stuff Andy. I like the emphasis on fundamentals, the cause and effect, that you are bringing to these videos. (As opposed that is to the symptomatic, behavioural, "tips & fixes" sort of approach which is just so annoying!) Would be good for example to see an analysis of the causal relationship between grip (posture) and takeaway. Love the swing btw.....

Great instruction Carter!!! Years ago I bought a training club that had a hinge about a foot from the clubface....a 5 iron....if at any point swinging it you did something wrong....like too fast a takeaway....out of alignment on the takeaway.....wrong position at impact of after impact....that hinge would come loose and the club head would flop to the side....that club really helped me......helped my swing be very smooth too.....any herky jerky movement would cause it to break away.....the good takeaway path you are showing would have kept that training club intact ....

Sounds like a really good training aid. What is it called?

The Medicus....originally it was just a 5 iron.....then later on they came out with a Medicus driver.....it was Medicus7.com I think.....Mark O'Meara was the spokesperson for the driver but that original 5 iron was awesome......I finally figured it out...first in slow motion then I added some speed...it improved my tempo a lot....it would flop to the side for the smallest wrong move too....I used to take it to the range and was able to use it like a regular 5 iron after a couple of months...lol. Frustrating at the start though

That's what my teacher got me working on during lockdown.. I was so flat at the top that my club head was below my hands! I was rotating my leading arm way too much during backswing and would have no choice but to come over the top from there.. It's hard to break that habit after years though... Any specific feels or tips to stand the club more vertically on takeaway? Do you push down on the butt of the club with your lead hand (pushes clubhead up)... Thanks forthis.

Hey Stephane, i like getting my students to practice with their butt against the wall so when you take the club up you can only go back steep. Obviously don’t practice the downswing from here though!

Well a good video, but I have played ok fanning the club open on the backswing although with quite a hook, but at least I had some loft on the club. Needed to really clear the left hip in the downswing. I’m not doing it at the moment, but it’s always a fallback. Perhaps a video on irons and wedges missing left. Path/ face control. And also how to fade irons to iron out a path that too far to the right.

Yes but be careful how you waggle it. It can definately relieve tension but be careful the waggle doesn’t become the takeaway

#Truth. Rick & Pete have great channels (I watch both regularly). And Rick for sure thinks he’s the best, but I’d back Andy vs those guys 10/10. He hits more fairways & is a much better putter than those two.
