Penelope Keith was awarded Dame of the British Empire in 2014, and very rightly so. Although her characters were aloof and middle-upper class, her acting always appealed to me, as a working class....Her Majesty and her decision to make Penelope a DBE was superb ❤

This has always been a comfort series for me too. It’s a good reminder to simplify life , and be grateful. Even if you don’t want to simplify as much as they have, it feels good to imagine that you could succeed even in the most basic circumstances. 😀

Our favorite tv show called Good Neighbors here in the States. We watched religiously and I’m reminded of the last episode. She had to work and I’d been crestfallen, swearing I wouldn’t watch it without her, even though she said it was fine, I felt it was betraying her. I did and was in tears but couldn’t stop watching. One of the worst things I regret 40 some odd years later. One of the best, most heartwarming series ever. Enjoy. Ta

I'm only in my mid 30's and I feel quite lucky that, between my elder brothers, of various ages, and my parents, I saw comedies from as old as the 50s to the late 90s and 2000s (when I was growing up). Some of the 70s ones were just brilliant. I loved The Good Life. And Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em and Last Of The Summer Wine were great too. Though it's hard to think of Last Of The Summer Wine as a 70s series when it went on for so many decades!

Wonderful comedy from the 70s ...and the writing and acting was done with a lovely warmth and honesty,..the 1970s had some really great comedies, ....sadly modern telly is so boring by comparison.....this decade was a golden era in sitcoms

I just discovered this show on audio through my local library. I'm on my second run through of the entire series. I guessed that someone had posted at least some of it on KZitem and I wasn't wrong! Love seeing these shows I had only heard before. Penelope Keith narrates some of the visual elements so it's easy to follow along. She sounds different enough that you never confuse her with Margot. What a wonderful treat this show is. So glad I found it!

I have this on audio, too. Great to listen to while I'm puttering around the kitchen or laundry room. I love Penelope Keith's narration, so much so that I purchased all the "Agatha Raisin" cozy murder mysteries by M.C. Beaton which Keith narrates so well.

I watched this when it was broadcast here in Australia in the 1970s and it had a profound effect on my way of viewing life. In my 20s my partner and I grew most of our own vegetables and herbs and we kept ducks and chickens (only for the eggs). Kids, work, terrible climate etc slowed us down but we still grow a lot of vegetables. We used to brew our own beer and cider but the latter was HORRIBLE. You’d get through one and start a second bottle and feel deathly. We hope to emigrate to the UK in a couple of years time and will start up the self sufficiency again.

I do love finding shows like this on KZitem. Of course the only downside is that you inevitably find at the sour commenter posting stuff like: "Telly these days is rubbish,", "Back when TV was good,", "couldn't make this nowadays,", "The PC brigade/woke have ruined everything....etc...etc". The irony is that such views completely ignore the fact that TV throughout the decades is liberally peppered with comedy to suit all tastes...even today. And comedies like this were often dismissed, during their day, as being 'mundane' or 'middle of the road'.

Let's all just get on,when we don't agree let's meet in the middle, let's agree to disagree & let's just get on in life, money comes & goes, but our loved ones don't..sorry to ramble on,but let's just enjoy life, life can be hard enough without people making harder,so let's just be there for one another no matter what.. Sending love & hugs,to anyone needing that bit of reassurance then know you are only human, don't put so much pressure on yourself,be kind to your self & give yourself love & time to heal, just take each day as it comes..please take care & stay safe 🙏🏻💜✌🏼☮🌠🤘🏻🌱🌹🐝🐞🙏🏻💜✌🏼☮🌠🤘🏻🌱🌹🐝🌹..

Yeah, that's what happens when 4:3 gets 'cinematized', eh? Too many key elements in the frame and/or so many camera pans/movement to maintain everything in-frame, or in some cases, no excuse other than just really bad cropping.
