music: (vocals, guitar, harmonica) michael hermiston
….. having just re-read this Steinbeck classic, the heart and soul of this book seems as timeless as ever…i made use of some of the many poignant lines in the novel and then used some clips from the John Ford film....also,
a wonderful cover of the Springsteen tune: The Ghost of Tom Joad, by elisa louise here:
• The Ghost Of Tom Joad ...
lyrics:
"wires strung on crooked poles"
the road back home lost beneath our wheels
fools gold draws our wounded family, along old sixty six
procession of Okies all searching
hungry hearts and stolen lands
dreams of orchards and kindness
hopes roll on our Hudson Super Six
"there was the hills and there was me ….
and we wasn't separate no more"
"when fella gets used to a place, it's hard to go"
"we been whippin' the hell outta ourselves for nothing"
with nothing to show
automobiles boiled clouds of dust
in the hot stinging air
barley beards and clover burrs
the dawn came but no day
"squatting in the dust perplexed and figuring"
"a lot of sinful idears, now seem sensible"
"guy gotta wear 'em if he got no others"
citadel of the family, through grit and tears
"sometimes a guy'll be a good guy"
starvation under the orange trees
"lingering large red drop of sun
"when a bunch of fellers take you and lock you up for years,
it ought to have some meaning"
"that sort of senselessness worries a man"
"torn cloud, like a bloody rag"
