Can you name a better live Grateful Dead Performance? I'm all ears.

Depends on what it is you most value about their music. When I was first getting into the band in 1978, Loser, Tennessee Jed and the like were the most meaningful to me, so that would lead me to one set of shows. Later on, I'd lean more toward the jams between tunes, which would lead me to other shows and other eras. I don't know if there is video, but Atlanta 03-02-1992 has a smoking Loser. The trick is finding a recording that does it justice.

7/7/89 and 7/10/87, both at JFK Stadium, and I was there for both of them. 7/7/89 was a boiling hot day, and my girlfriend and I went in early to see Bruce Hornsby and The Range, who were the openers. So we got seats up front on the field, about 30 feet from Bruce, and eventually Brent and Jerry. Awesome show, "Loser" was smokin'. Saw the boys about 50 times, and they were ALL the best show ever. Jerry's second solo on "Deal" from Alpine Valley '89 was pretty great too.

That solo tone is perfect. I saw the Radio City version from 80'. Its not very good tbh. The keys were also not so great. this 89 version is a massive upgrade. Take care Kevin. I am envious.

If you can find it, the Dead Ahead dvd at Radio city 1980 with the bonus disc that has Shakedown street is pretty great with that chill acoustic Bird song opener.

The 7-4-89 Buffalo show is consistently awesome. The 7-17-89 Alpine Valley show is the best of the summer. Check out the China Cat Sunflower from that show. This J.F.K. show is highly rated, but I missed it because I got busted earlier on tour.

@@colinlamb Not that interesting... I was on my first Dead tour with a friend and his hot blonde girlfriend. We were traveling in this beat up sports car, three abreast in the front seat. This got a little awkward when I was squeezed in so close to the blonde. Should have worn baggier shorts to hide my enthusiasm. We pulled over to help some fellow Deadheads on the NY Freeway near Syracuse and the cops rolled up and ended up searching our car. Found a dozen hits of acid I had forgotten about in my jacket. Off we go to jail. We got in front of a judge, and luckily for us a lawyer who use to know Timothy Leary saw our sad day-glo asses and took our case for free. I imagine our hot travelling companion may have swayed the lawyer a bit. He ended up lgetting us released until out trial date and let us stay at his house for the night. In the end, we ended up missing the last night of the tour in Alpine Valley because we needed to make our court date, but all we got was a small fine.

@kevin-ki5dy

@@colinlamb A "miracle" ticket is when a stranger gives someone a free ticket. Usually the person in need of the ticket walks around holding up one finger as a sign. The term "miracle comes from the song "I Need a Miracle".

72 veneta has some of my favorite versions. Greatest story, sugar magnolia and one more saturday are electric. Absolutely love jerrys tone on alligator from 68-02-14. Looks like rain from dicks picks 18 also very good. Only really getting into these slower emotional jams over the past year or so. Loser never used to grab me, but this one is great.

I did Foxboro, Buffalo, and Giant's Stadium in the week leading up to Philly. I'm sad I didn't see the Philly show, but I was spent and needed to get back to work. Before my time, but I would pick something from the early '70s as my favorite.

I saw 1980 @ Radio City Hall. The energy and solo tone are incomparable. The 89 loser is like a different song. Might have been the substances at the time kzitem.info/news/bejne/ro1_r4Vjf4FpnJgsi=S-qNEGQ9Y-yfFWK4

It's funny your mentioning selling Jerry's sweat. Jerry would have new pickups installed on his guitars every tour and a couple of days ago I was wondering what happened to the old ones. A lot of money could have been raised for charities if they were auctioned off.
