DESCRIPTION
One of the key rules for managing Long Covid is pacing - and those of us who have failed to do it well enough have paid the price. But is there a way of integrating activity into recovery - and if so, what do you need to do to make it work?
In this grand experiment I head to the Swiss alps to see if someone who worries about the walk to the tube station can manage to ski radical off-piste - without inducing relapse.
Since posting this video I received a great comment from Darren Brown, Chair of Long Covid Physio (@darrenabrown on twitter) which I wanted to share here regarding the content of this film as I completely agree:
"I sit uncomfortable with how this video could be misinterpreted or misused, particularly by those who want to continue to push a psychologisation or “exercise your way out of it” agenda. Unfortunately I sit in a number of guideline, policy or research meetings where I'm continually still having to challenge those narratives.
I also want to clarify in case there was any risk of misunderstanding for those watching, that pacing is not in opposition to activity. Pacing = the balance between activity and rest, to mitigate symptom exacerbation. So most of us have some type of activity in our day (eg: moving). Pacing is not to the exclusion of activity. In fact, what you describe in your video is indeed still pacing, by factoring in periods of rest with periods of meaningful activities."
Please be in no doubt that pacing continues to be the best way of managing Long Covid symptoms, this film simply suggests another way of going about it. Enjoy the content!
