In this video I will map out Nietzsche's conception of sickness and health and why he believed sickness was the way to a more complete and robust health.
The philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche was not limited to a search for truth but instead was an evaluation of western culture in terms of sickness and health. According to Nietzsche western culture is in decline and this decline is a symptom of a dangerous sickness inside the body. This sickness has its origins in the instincts according to Nietzsche. Nietzsche’s prescription for the sickness of western culture was the “great health”. The “great health” would not be achieved by leaving this sickness behind. In Nietzsche's terminology we need this sickness in order to be healthy.
