The expectation from men are so low, that it is very easy to be a “great” husband/father by doing the most basic things. Breaking a traditional path wil give you applauses irrespective of your gender. Because takes courage to face the unusual gaze from the society which they are not used to. So if a female breaks a traditional path and does something in a male dominated field any sane person wil applaud her and same goes for men and in this case for you. Good for you but your comparison is not apt and it just seems to be over simplifying the situation and making men as villain.

A great movie. Why we had to wait for so many years to see the real story happening in an Indian house. I feel this movie outrated all other Malayalam movies. I watched by three parts. Because it’s difficult to overcome the emotions I was going through while watching this movie. In India, the same woman who suffers misleads the future generation by showing disparity in growing up their son and daughters. This could be stopped if all Indian mothers thinks to change Indian home a better place for girls, and give them equal rights and respect as they give to their sons or sons-in-law or even to a male servant. The rights that a girl get at home is lower than how family members behave to a male servant.
@shree2325

Hands down it is one of the greatest malayalam movies that speaks about all women subjected to being a housewife. And there are men who support their wife, sister, daughter and his mother too. We never get to see such stories. The fault is with the women in the households who bring up their boys without conceding any thoughts of house hold responsibilities. There are fathers who make sure that their sons must learn basic knowledge of works outside the house, but mothers put up a wall in making their sons do household chores. This must change and that's my takeaway.

The movie also effectively shows women themselves as upholders of patriarchy such as the aunt and the mother characters, whereas the mother-in-law is shown becoming herself and expressing herself after even temporarily getting out of that environment. That was the part I made sure my own female relatives saw!

Watched it today. The best part was "table manners". Beside strong yet subtle narrative, I need to admit that in the end there is another lady who gets in the same trap, which puts a kind of ' futile exercise' feeling to the whole exercise of making such a film.

It shows that the whole system too rooted in our society to change. One woman who raised voice against patriarchy is easily replaceable by another. N sadly its the real truth

But why to stop at the show of overshadowing of the system? We need ways to fight with it. And win.

@@TheAvidWatcher they are simply depicting reality there is no aggresive suggestions or morality narrations in the film...i think its more impactfull this way when movie shows evenafter all this, there is no change n patriarchy continues...my opnion

The male lead actor is a national award winning actor on the other hand the Actress in this movie have done less than 10 movies i think. Im sure if this female role was done by nayanthara or some1 they would have to pay more to the actress than the actor.

I also think they wanted to show how the living conditions of her new house were drastically different from the house of her parent's, yet she was supposed to adjust. Another scene where they show the pregnant daughter and the mother in law going away to support her pregnancy also shows that they have not treated their own daughter and daughter in law equally. Plus the relatively nicer house of the daughter is also to show that while they live in an old traditional house and honesty a filthy kitchen, they wanted their own daughter to go into a house which wasn't like that. The film hence also plays on the family dynamics of the treatment of daughter - in- law and the daughter which again in so called 'secret in the society that a family will want their daughter to have all the luxuries go life while not extending the same courtesy to the daughter-in-law.

Hey sucharita, love your channel and analysis. I just have one request from the bottom of my heart. I find myself (and I feel there are a lot of ppl here with me) glued to screens (Netflix/prime/KZitem) essentially anytime that I'm not required to be working. Credit where it's due, we are getting some amazing story telling, yes! But I feel it's hindering our personal growth now (last year's extraordinary circumstances not withholding). I'm sure you're aware and acknowledge the evils of over-viewing for someone to whom these should be brief moments of escape. So may I recommend you to start a series at the end of every month with just 4-6 movies/shows that came out that you would recommend us to pick from and watch. I know it finally comes down to self-control, but I got the feeling you'd like to be part of the solution. Keep being awesome❤️
