The Great Indian Train Robbery. Today I will tell you about the biggest railway robbery in the history of India. On August 8, the night of 2000 Solo, dirty currency-notes worth Rs.342 crores from the branches of the Indian Overseas Bank at Salem, and two other banks, were being transported to the Reserve Bank of India, Chennai, in a parcel van attached to Salem. Police sources said that Mohar Singh, some of his associates, including Kalia, Russi and Biltya, collected information about this train route by repeatedly traveling between Ayothiapattinam and Virudhachalam stations for over a week. Mohar Singh of Guna district of Madhya Pradesh was the leader of this robbery.
