I think this is part of the reason why Catherine arrested Marial at the end of the episode. Marial became untrustworthy after spilling about Catherine to Peter and then spilling to Catherine about her mom. Her mom wasn’t particularly a good person but even if Marial didn’t like her, she didn’t have to tell Catherine like that, while she was happy and in a good mood about seeing the ottomans and Peter. This is uncovering a new side to Marial, that is jealous and unkind, and I can’t wait to see more of it in season 3. Also it’s just showing Marial’s very extreme side. But even after all this I hope Catherine and her can become friends again as they are the most badass duo.

Idk, Marial came across as pretty spiteful and thoughtless here. You could argue that there's no nice way of saying something like this, but she babbled it out in an almost cruel way. Peter aside, him as a person specifically, much relies on a stable relationship between him and Catherine. Telling Catherine that he was involved in her mother's death on the day that she's going into a warzone to mediate with a dangerous enemy is stupid. This literally could have waited another day. Marial has pretty bad timing in general. This is just like how in the season 1 finale she told Peter about Catherine's coup at the most inopportune time; except, in that situation, she got the benefit of becoming a lady again. What did she really gain here?

Marial was aware but not in full details till Grigor unraveled if you mean Aunt Elizabeth, then she got a taste of Catherine's wraith by the ‘five fingers to the face’ sort of speak, however, fortunately for Catherine, it was at the moment Elizabeth chose to back Catherine, that is why she disobeyed Catherine's order and instead helped her unexpectedly when Catherine confronted The Sultan, Catherine is having to take such heavy losses, nonetheless, she is also attaining triumphant gains through powerful supporters as well. Imagine being humiliated and mistreated entire years without deserving it, just because a cruel, dumb monster got offended with your father. Then you finally set free and have your well-deserved revenge, because Peter was locked up and mistreated, just as she was. But then, after all this time, the friend who helped you set free falls "in love" with that same monster because "she changed him", so the monster will eventually run free, enjoy life and ultimately, regain his status. Not officially, but Peter didn't need a title at this point. So he would be happy, with his son and lover, after... what? A year of a lockdown that he didn't even respect in countless occasions? Not even? While her, that she did nothing wrong, was abused by an entire Court during years and anyone (except Catherine and a pair of misfits) dared to defend or support her. Yes, she's a friend to Catherine and wants her to be happy. But anyone (especially Marial, being passionate, realistic and ruthless) is driven by a very justified anger over Catherine's dumb "love" for a monster who ruined her life. Marial thinks she's protecting her, like when she revealed her plans to Peter in S1 and told him she was pregnant, so he wouldn't kill Catherine. She's protecting her from Peter, again. Because she still thinks he'll never change, and even if he did, he doesn't deserve a second chance. Above this, Catherine is so alienated when she's around the people she loves (like her mother) that she is not capable of seeing reality. And yes, Marial didn't tell Catherine that she buried her mother's body. Because Catherine loved her mother, even though she was a terrible person. And once dead, Joanna wasn't a problem anymore. So why remove the past? But Peter WAS alive, he WAS a problem that needed solving. I don't know, Marial is a bit cruel, but she can't empathize with Catherine's affection for monsters. She's protecting her, but in her own way.

Yes Marial liked that Johanna died and covered up her murder, because she was a threat to Marial. Yes Marial is self-serving too. But continuing to lie when Catherine is being in Marial's eyes delusional about Peter would be worse. The facts are Peter had sex with Johana and she ended up dead. We know it was an accident. I get she is mad at peter, no doubt. But she never got mad at her mom for fooling around with her husband? I wouldnt care if she dies after that betrayal.

I hate Marial, she was only self-serving and Catherine is an idiot I never condone violence but I never wanted to slap someone silly more then I do her. for thinking Marial is helping her for her sake. I hole catherine wakes up and realizes cause if not I want Peter to take his throne back.

I get why Mariel did what she did but the way she did it wasn't okay. Catherine cares about what Mariel thinks and I think sitting her down to explain everything was how it should've been done.

Ekatarina was excellent. But I don't really find this offering attractive, for all its stunning imagery. For those who like this kind of Hollywood farce, this seeming blend of 'Kill Bill' and 'Sex in the City' should be fun.

Ok... I am unfamiliar with this show, aside from seeing this clip and one other (where Catherine meets the Sultan in the woods, gets her hand stabbed and then stabs the Sultan in the neck), so, would someone please explain to me the supposed logic behind this show. The acting appears very good, but the plots, well, is this revisionist history (like what gave the world a black Anne Boleyn and black aristocrats in "Bridgerton"?) or what? It is recorded that Catherine and Peter, who was crazy, hated each other, so what gives? If this is an intentional skewing of history, that's one thing, but if it is " creative" filmmaking, well, "Capote and the Swans" has shown what a cesspool that leads to...

There is only one issue I have with this show. The REAL Catherine went through hell and back. She took over a tottering Empire from an unprepared boy. However there was none of this drama. There was MORE. I'm pretty sure they wrote this thinking to be " diverse" and grab millennials but open up a book about her and you will find that her real life is much more fascinating. She definitely deserved a bit more historical accuracy here instead of trying to turn it into a soap opera. Was the entertainment here well done? For what it is yes. Not for accuracy though.

Why would anyone expect accuracy from a comedy drama tho? one that clearly advertise themselves to be anti-historical. That's like expecting pork at a vegan restaurant. Or moral lesson from furry porn.

There wasn't more. Her mother was not killed, for one. When caught spying for Prussia, she was told to pack and leave. The empire was pretty damn stable despite regular palace coups. Despite being implicated in several conspiracies, multiple lovers, at least one illegitimate child, the absolute worst she was threaten with was divorce and a monastery.

Usually that bothers me, for this show I can see it only being a hindrance. I like this way of telling these stories. The Favourite was also very good. They make it very clear that this isn't anything close to the real story so I'm fine with it.
