Impresive flying skills, but two points: first, this should be a video about the Big Boy and not a platform to show off; second, if the FAA ever sees this, you had better be prepared for a visit. The number of drone regulations you shattered in this one video is staggering. Here, let me list t=some of them: 1. Flying very low over the heads of MANY people -- this one alone could see a fine from the FAA in the $100K range. 2. Flying fast in the opposite direction of the train and along the side -- this risks hitting the engineer or fireman as they reach their heads out to see ahead. 3. Flying right up to the cab window within feet of the crew in the cab. Again, impressive flying skills, but the place for that is NOT over a crowd or that close to anything with people in or near it. My guess is this video will be taken down when the drone pilot realizes the potential court costs and settlement. If not, it will come down when the FAA pays a visit!

To start, let me be the first to apologize for not originally listing the equipment I was using during this flight. I run two channels, one that is oriented for my videography business which focuses on flying drones indoors, and this one, where I post all things I'm interested in. The business channel has it set to automatically list my equipment. As a licensed comercial drone operator. Along with some spotters I was there using a category 2 aircraft that fits well within the regulations listed by the FAA as compliant for flying the way I did. Please read up on the regulations on the FAA website. www.faa.gov/uas/commercial_operators/operations_over_people Finally, thank you very much, it took a long time to become as skilled as I am in order to have the confidence to get footage like this. And yes I will show it off as I am proud of that fact, as anyone should. I hope you have a fantastic rest of your day.

you have no idea what youre talking about when it comes to the rules of flying drones and FAA. Do NOT make random facts up and do NOT spread information. Because that is what youre doing. Im a drone operator of 7 years and done plenty of events even a few railroads myself and this was well within regulations and rules. If youre going to make accusations at least provide your source and back up your blabbering where ever the hell you read half your stuff from. Fool.

@@Tivis7Just on the safety matters,.. Well thought out comment by Raptorman, deserving of a pin just so folks who may not know about the variations in the levels of operators licensing can find your polite, consice and informative reply and go on to learn more about the standards that need to be met for approval of flights like these. I shared the concern over the closeness to public until reading that you have the comercial license and had spotters in place (which also explains how you got clear audio recordings without prop noise), so now can just enjoy the vision and the work done to achieve it. Going from the final shot where you're about to catch the RPV, I expect you were using DJI's smallest quadcopter for that last shot, and possibly an Avata for the first few. There also appeared to be an Inspire well above you in that last sequence, and as you're heading to land we can see what appear to be security or police officers, did you have any interaction with them? Glad you didn't do the under-the-carriages shot like in NurkFPV's 'Flight of the year' from 2019.
@Tivis7

@PiDsPagePrototypes Yes, you are correct in assuming the AVATA, the little guy, is my workhorse for many projects with clients. In fact, the only shots that weren't the AVATA were the ones in the intro done by the AIR 3. However, as I mentioned in the description, I was so excited I actually didn't record any audio as I forgot to do so. The audio is actually pulled from other videos, which are all in the description. I did speak to law enforcement, but they were chill and unconcerned. I did see Nurk's video, and for the longest time, it was my inspiration. I'll never do anything that gets me THAT close to the equipment at speed unless I somehow work something up with UP or another railroad (which I am secretly hoping for lol). Cheers dude!

@@Tivis7 Sorry, you're just making things worse for yourself and as an actual pilot YOU KNOW BETTER. In a commercial drone shoot, such as making a movie, everyone is aware of the drone and briefed on what to do -- this is what actual pro drone pilots do because it's required! You did NOT get permission from everyone who's heads you flew so closely over and that, by itself, could cost you more than $100K AND your license. Another person in the comments section has also complained about your ruining the shots of the dozens of other people as your drone was whipping to-and-fro through their shots. Drone are often seen around things like the Big Boy and sometimes they also get too close, but for the most part they stay higher and out of the way. You violated rules that are there for a reason and at this point, you continued denial of your violations has forced me to forward this case to the FAA -- I do not do this lightly and only because your continued statements prove to me that you are a danger to the public.

You should be arrested. However, you are correct and that is the first of its kind footage like that that I have seen and it is awesome.😊. That being said, I'm glad you were doing aerial footage with a drone and stuff. Being one of the California a******* that kept getting into my shots on the only 3 locations. I had picked out that I had previously Scouted just the night before. Good footage and good video.

I have a question, please. This drone has very good telephoto capability, correct? The reason I ask is because I saw when a drone dropped into Baltimore Harbor coming back in from a flyte of the MV DALI recently. The pilot got a replacement the next day. Both drones had very good telephoto capability. You commented on Hyce's channel that the view had been cropped so you saw a whole lot more than what was put out. These shots are extreme "helicopter" shots and are very well done. I am asking for information, not to be a dick. For information, my family, I, my wife, and my 3-year-old son were walking beside the 4449 as it was backing the Freedom Train into position below the Arch in St. Louis in 1976 along with several hundred other people that morning. I could have touched the cylinder saddle or pilot had I wanted. This locomotive was pushing the cars into position with hardly any noise. The diesels had been cut off for this move.

I would like to be like so others in saying that this is some very nice footage, but some of it defiantly violates the FAA rules on OOP. There are no DJI drone that have a DOC for OOP, just for RID. I reading the rules I would say that you have violated both 107.19 and probably 107.23. "The small unmanned aircraft will pose no undue hazard to other aircraft, people, or property in the event of a loss of control of the aircraft for any reason"(107.19) OOP also includes anyone inside a moving vehicle, that includes people in the train. I hope for your sake that the FAA doesn't look at the same way I am.

The video is cool. But you clearly Violated UP'S RULES on no drones on railroad property. They even had to make a comment that no drones on the property. I get your experienced. But UP has these rules in place. Not to mention if i was a engine crew i would be distracted with a drone buzzing past me. Not trying to bash you. But please respect the rules.
