Rookies these days are praised for much more mundane achievement compared to what Jacques, and notably Lewis, has achieved. Sad the bar is set a bit low right now. @@ihsanjayadi88 Yeah I agree 100%. I wouldnt say it pales in comparison to Lewis' rookie season, but its certainly not as impressive. I think the reason rookies aren't getting top seats anymore is because of all the limits FIA imposes on testing. There have been 17 drivers who ended up in the top three in their very first Grand Prix, including the podium finishers from the inaugural world championship race at Silverstone in 1950 (Nino Farina, Luigi Fagioli and Reg Parnell). Alberto Ascari missed that race, but finished second in the next one, in Monaco. Pride of place should go to the Italian Giancarlo Baghetti, who won his first GP, in France in 1961. He's the only man ever to win his first race, if you don't count Farina. Kevin Magnussen joined the list with his second place in Australia in 2014; he was the first man to finish on the podium on his GP debut since Lewis Hamilton, who was third in Australia in 2007. Before that a debut podium was achieved by Jacques Villeneuve (second in Australia in 1996), Mark Donohue (third in Canada in 1971), Reine Wisell (third in the US in 1970), Mike Parkes (second in France in 1966), Peter Arundell (third in Monaco in 1964), Masten Gregory (third in Monaco in 1957), Cesare Perdisa (third in Monaco in 1955 - a shared drive), Karl Kling (second in France in 1954), Dorino Serafini (second in Italy in 1950 - another shared drive) and Peter Whitehead (third in France in 1950).

@@warrior5187 That's why I firmly believe F1 can never have a GOAT. I don't understand why people even try haha. To me it's supposed to be a sport about the marriage between humanity and technology, all the hard work of the teams and engineers pay off when the right driver becomes one with his car. The cars life is in his hands and vice versa. I don't know if that's a bit dramatic but to me F1 is supposed to be a magical thing. It's why I get really frustrated with how toxic and petty fans can get. It's also why I don't appreciate a lot of modern drivers, I could be wrong and I know they're good at what they do but a lot of them just seem like rich kids who are doing F1 to be relevant and make more money lol. Obviously not all of them, that's why I like drivers like Verstappen (because he seems to want to experiment in difference disciplines of motorsport which is always really cool) and Hamilton (because he really had to fight his way to F1 and seems to have actually loved it from a young age). I'll always prefer the older drivers, maybe it's nostalgia bias and I'm not pretending like they were all perfect but back in the day when getting into the car was significantly more dangerous you just felt that they were racing for the sake of racing, because they loved it :) I'm obviously not saying safety is a bad thing, because it's not duh, but it just seems like today's drivers are a little more in it for superficial reasons and not for a love of racing. Again, maybe I'm wrong! I'd love to know what you think.
@warrior5187

@@notaspeck6104 Thats a great way of putting it, and thats exactly how i feel, everybody is debating who the greatest driver is but really there will never be a GOAT, because there is to many variables when it comes to racing, but all in all to win a championship it isnt about the driver or the car its the drivers ability to squeeze every bit of performance out of the car, and the luck that comes with having a good car. If you have a good car but you are a bad driver or even subpar one you are not going to beat someone thats good in equal machinery, and vice versa no matter how good of a driver you are you cant make a less competitive car go faster than a championship contending car, no matter how good Verstappen, Hamilton, or Vettle is, if you put them in an alpha romeo, they will not beat a redbull, thats just racing for you. People want to say "Oh this person has more wins" or "But this person has more championships" but in reality about 50 - 65% of that has nothing to do with the driver and everything to do with the car, the team, the strategy, the mechanics, the pit crew, and every other driver of every other team and everyone of their individual performances, but that is what makes Formula 1 the exciting sport we all love to watch, talk and debate about. The amazing bond between man and machine, the friendships and rivalries , the incredible feat of speed and power, and the elegant design and technology, the rich history and unfolding story is just some of the many reasons why alot of people really love this sport.

@vladaltreilea1431 He excelled by being by far the most complete driver of the 2007 season, despite being only a rookie, almost winning the championship and humbling his WDC teammate. You don't get on the podium 9 times straight on your first 9 races "on luck". I don't believe Hamilton is better than Alonso because of 2007 alone, but because the multiple times he simply proved to be a stronger driver. Also, there is no such thing as a "car made for Verstappen" in Red Bull, this is bullshit, Perez just straight up sucks.

@vladaltreilea1431 Can't compare Hamilton to Villeneuve. Hamilton's teammate was an elite driver, not only that but there was also Ferrari with a fairly similar paced car and two very competitve drivers as well, so it was a rookie vs 3 other very skilled drivers on similar machinery. Villeneuve's Williams was dominant, his teammate was Damon Hill, and there was no competition for them other than Schumacher making a miracle here and there with a much worse car. You're focusing way too much on raw car speed and too little on actual track performance. None of the post 2008 McLarens were title challengers, they had speed but no reliability and the team was a mess. The "titanics" Alonso drove at Ferrari were slow on a single lap, but bulletproof tyre whispers on race day. Credit where its due though, none of them were better than Red Bull so he did a very good job, but that's it.

@vladaltreilea1431 In 2021 when if was Hamilton vs the whole RB organization in AT and RB along with the FIA? All of that and he still basically won. Don't think Hamilton forgot how to fight especially there was 2014-2016 Nico then the 2017-2018 Ferrari. Also regarding his rookie season, Alonso had more testing hours than Hamilton. All of the championship contenders had a foot above Hamilton regardless of the amount of testing. Additionally for today's rookies, they have testing and extremely sophisticated sims to practice on compared to the past; so they aren't exactly backfooting their career.

Being a rookie in 2007 ≠ Being a rookie in 2023. Some would be surprised to know there was no limit mileage for F1 testing in between seasons unlike today. McLaren didn’t hesitate to let Hamilton complete THOUSANDS of miles behind the wheel of the 2006 car at different tracks. And yes, before anyone tries to jump in saying I’m just a bitter Alonso fan (which I was back then to be honest 😂), I realized in 2009 how good Hamilton was while driving that dog of a car McLaren made and even winning a race that season!

His haters try to discredit this achievement since then with stupid arguments. 1st. It is very rare for a rookie to beat experienced teammate. Not a world champ just someone who drove few seasons. Last 10 years it happened 2times 2018Leclerc-Ericcson, 2015 Nasr Ericcson ( 2019Russel-Kubica as well) - Its easy in the best car - There are only 4 other drivers who got 9 podiums in a row EVER (Schumi, Alonso, Vettel, now Verstappen as well). He did it in his firts 9 race. If thats not enough i dont know what is. Just to debute on the podium has happened 3x in the last 25 years (Villeneuve, Magnussen) - He tested more with McLaren. -Still its harder to go from GP" to F1 than 1 team to an other. And Alonso tested enough. He was same as Renault days - He was favoured. - This is the stupidest. Everyone says this but when i ask to tell me 1 example they cant Alonso started as N1 driver. Team orders, first upgrades... When Lewis beat him he went crying to Ron. Said no. Blackmailing with Spygate. Signing with renault, and then he was cut off from 2008 dewelopment. (just as others who leave a team)Thats it. - He was used to the tires. GP2 drives in Bridgestone. Renault was Michlein. - Still easier to adapt to a tire than a different car, but if its that hard how did Kimi beat Massa? He drove in different tire as well. And its not like he was slower driver as 2008 proved And there is a lot more. All of these are stupid or just untrue. Lewis is just that good.

Hamiltons career would have looked vastly different had he started in a more "traditional" team as a rookie, but he took the opportunity that was presented to him and delivered a near perfect result. It took a long time for many F1 fans to respect him (myself included), but it truly takes a bitter personality to not respect him now. Hamilton is amazing, huge respect for his rookie season., However, this is just half of the story and only from the perspective of Hamilton. You don't really explain why Alonso waited in the pits (not to slow Hamilton down, but because he was telling the team that they put used tires on him, so he was telling them to change them to new ones, but the new ones were reserved for Hamilton...) And what about the races that Hamilton was given the last lap of Q3 Quali instead of Alonso (they had to refuel in the pits, so they used to alternate which driver would take the last stint since the track is warmer and with more rubber the later you try, but Ron Dennis would find excuses to allow Hamilton that last lap in several occasions). Nice video but would be nice if someone would tell both sides of the story and not only Alonso's or Hamilton's side.

The difference between Schumacher's good car and Hamilton's good car: Schumacher literally had one of the worst Ferrari of all-time when he arrived at Ferrari in 1996, it took him and his team 5 years to develop an unbeatable car for 2000-2004 with an insane amount of testing (which was allowed back then). Meanwhile, Hamilton's Mercedes was developed literally BY Schumacher and Ross Brawn, only needed the V6 engine to become unbeatable. Hamilton just took Michael's spot and claimed all the glory. That's why Lewis will never be better than Michael. Even if he might wins his 8th title (what I highly doubt now in Max's dominancy), still won't be better than Schumacher.

He was mentored by Ron Dennis since the age of 13. He was testing Kimi's setup.. Neither Schumacher nor Senna ever had that amount of preparation before entering F1. To be fair,hamilton’s spectacular debut was helped partly by the bridgestones he wased used to race in f3000 and f2 and he had 20days of proper testing in the 2007 car beforehand unlike anything like these days which helped him adapt to the cars quicker,meanwhile fernando had to worry about getting ysed to grips with new bridgestones he never drove before and a new team with ron dennis favouring his young protege driver with limited 2days of testing compromised him gettinng adapted to the car which meant fernando wasn’t operating at full capacity untill the second half of the season and by that time ferrari developed the car a bit and were winning and consistently on podium meanwhile alonso and hamilton were ripping each others points.

What kind of biased video is this? 1-In Monaco, Alonso was far ahead more than 9 secs towards the last laps after second pit stops, he had to take care of the rear brakes because team told both drivers they might get an error from rear brakes so he stopped pushing knowing that he won’t be pitting again and brakes might lead a dnf but hamilton didn’t, that’s why lewis catch him. Hamilton wasn’t faster he just took the advantage of this situaiton. Go watch the full race 2-Back in days, in quali sessions cars have to start with their race fuel. The fuel amount you are using in quali must be same with your race fuel amount due to regulations. So both cars can not pit in same lap to refull their tank and only one car completes more laps in Quali (to spend more fuel and go for fastest lap with empty tank) and pits again to refull. Mclaren divides the schedule by giving priority to each driver in turn to make it fair. In Hungary Alonso had the priority but lewis goes out before alonso, ignores team messages then alonso pits and waits for extra 10 secs for not giving the opportunity to do one more lap to hamilton because hamilton had less fuel than alonso, which means if hamilton could complete one last lap he would be more faster due to fuel amount in his car.

Was absolutely their number 1 investment and driver well before his F1 race debut. The McLaren was the best car in F1 at the time and if the drivers had not fought so much would have prevented Raikkonen sneakily winning that 07 season. There is NOTHING special about Hamilton more just his pure luck of having the top car for 95% of his career. Alonso is the polar opposite. Considerably more talented, came through the hard way and yet made terrible team choices along the way ending up in poor cars for 95% of his career. Only Hamilton brown nosers who tend to know sweet F.A. about F1 in general and are mostly glory hunting idiots really think he is the GOAT and thats kind of sad.
