Brian Gutenkunst has earned the opportunity to be at the top of football operations. Also that would free up Mr. Policy to tend to the shareholders, Titletown, and other financial activities.

I wouldn’t say that Mark Murphy was a football guy. Yeah he played the game, but he ran the Packers like a CEO runs a company for most of his tenure. CEO’s of companies focus on the bottom line and not the product itself, and that’s what Murphy did the majority of his tenure in GB. He kept Ted Thompson around longer than he should have, and the Packers only have one SB to show for it, despite the fact the Packers had arguably the best QB in the league (Rodgers) for many of those years. Bob Harlan and Ron Wolf were football guys. They made decisions to win SB, trading for Favre, signing Reggie White, Santana Dotson, Eugene Robinson, and Andre Rison to name a few. Those were football decisions made to win football championships. Murphy and Ted Thompson made decisions based off of the bottom line, which was constant flow of cash to the Lambeau district. Murphy saw nothing wrong with that approach as long as the criticism of that approach didn’t arrive at his doorstep. As soon as the criticism arrived at Murphy’s doorstep that’s when he finally decided to replace Ted Thompson. If Murphy was a football guy he wouldn’t have waited for the criticism to come before he decided to replace Ted Thompson. He would have made the decision based off of Thompson’s record.

The whole 1 Super Bowl narrative is garbage. The rest of our division has one Super Bowl combined in like 60 years. Even Tom Brady said it’s nearly impossible to even win one Super Bowl.

Bob Harlan wasn’t a football guy. Didn’t play in college, much less the pros. Was Marquette Univ’s Sports Information Director for six years, then was on the PR staff of the St Louis Cardinals for five years.

@@WoodyZappa1 A football guy doesn’t mean you played the game or coached the game for that matter. It’s means you hire the best football people to make the best football decisions in order to win SB. Harlan did that. Harlan turned the Packers around with TWO decisions. He hired Ron Wolf and he convinced Reggie White to sign with the Packers. Those were football decisions made by a football guy.

Think about this: Mark had one job under the old structure. That job was to make sure that the GM was of sound mind and body so he could fully execute the responsibilities of his position. Ted was not of sound mind and body, and Mark either missed it or ignored it. So he failed at his one job. And the consequence of that failure? Lots more responsibility! Its really quite insane when you break it down. Hopefully we go back to the old system.

This is the opposite of what Kyle Brandt, former packers VP, just said lol. Gute is in charge of football operations. Policy will handle business stuff as it should be.

Andrew Brandt was a lawyer before he got a management position for a minor league football team. His bio says nothing about playing the game. Bob Harlan was in PR at Marquette U and the St Louis Cardinals baseball team before he joined the Packers. Never played the game. Carmen Policy, Ed’s father, was also a lawyer who ascended to CEO of the 49ers’ dynasty. I think Brandt’s point is dubious.

I'm really not concerned. At the end of the day, the fact that the team is a football business first means that if they have a good team they'll make more money, and if they have a bad team the won't make as much, which will make the next president look bad. There's no reason this guy would rock the boat with what's going on.

Like every conversation we can be pre-emptive or even pre-cognitive about this type of thing. Things could become as per an overzealous moment in time if worried about thus sitch-i-ation. We should be great heading in evolving transitions. The feel seems to be in a working environment. I'm excited to see the future for our team. This could be the most progressive strong consistent explosive team we could see in a long time even better than before. I can't wait to see the team work. I just rather not draw conclusions so early.

While Mark Murphy was uniquely qualified to make a broad range of decisions, the intent of the structure he put in place was to ensure the other three principals got together and talked - NOT the power grab that so many in the media assumed. I think now, authorities are well defined, but I assume benefit from open discussion. All three are working exceptionally well together - let's not screw this up. If MLF ever quits, moving to a GM in charge model could make sense.
