Many would find it easy to criticize France but the reality is this is something that not everyone can achieve. Let alone cleaning the river Seine. Many cities' rivers are no-go zones and no one is doing shit about it. The green design of these games is top-notch

Good in-depth video. Well done. Good to hear about that Climate Coach website that can help even smaller scale sporting events become more green, sustainable and eco-friendly. Maybe you can drop that link in the description or comments?

Wouldn't it be more sustainable yet and easier to stop moving these games around, keep them in the same place (Greece for instance), and stop constructing infrastructures that have a good chance to be left to decay afterwards?

A very good thought. It possibly would, but like other events like the World Cup, Euros, Copa, etc. these sporting events work to promote unity and create lasting change for athletes, citizens of the host countries, and for sport in general. Not to mention the economic impact hosting the Games has on each place it is hosted. It wouldn’t necessarily be fair to year after year provide multi-billion-dollar influxes to just one country, when the world has so much beauty to offer, and culture to share. For Paris 2024, like we mentioned in this video, the fact that 95% of existing or temporary competition venues is significantly altering the footprint of the Games, and hopefully can set a precedent for future Games organisers too.

@@GoingGreenOfficial in other words you're saying Capitalism good but I beg to differ. Olympics should be organised on a smaller scale.

@@whatname4613 Not necessarily do the economic impacts of hosting the games have to go to private capitalist companies. Do you know in Spain, the Mondragon company is one of the biggest worker co-operatives in Europe and has been doing very well for many years. If Spain hosted the next Olympics they might get many of their products from the Mondragon co-op and that would be a benefit to real people, in real communities who contribute to serving the Games. I'm not a supporter of capitalism, but I am aware that moving beyond capitalism will take time and transition. In that transition it is good to see some examples of sustainable events and developments taking place. Like it or not, Olympics and world championship events aren't going away anytime soon. At least if host cities are doing what they can to make them as sustainable, low-carbon and circular as possible to co-benefit the most members of that region, that is a good trend to see. Far better than if the Paris 2024 Olympics were blatantly capitalist, wasteful and ill-prepared to recycle most of the venues and goods that would be produced and used.

@@GoingGreenOfficial I get what you are saying and I am very happy they are trying to do this more sustainably, but as a french citizen myself (I live in Paris), I can ensure you that most of us are not so enthousiast about this "opportunity". We get plenty of tourists already, and the last thing we need is millions of additionnal people flocking around the Eiffel tower (and other monuments which are already degrading due to overtourism). This has considerable risen the cost of living, and student accomodations have been requested for the games (as if students were not vulnerable enough already). It seems to me that these games are never organised in places which could actually benefit from them, as they can't handle something this size.
