Not only was the past not better than it is today, newspapers - believe it or not - are less sensational now than they were pre-WWII. Can you imagine them publishing photos today of murdered corpses as they did here and in many other cases? "The past was way classier" my eye. People who say that are either brainwashed by Hollywood films or are just editing out all the bad stuff.

I think it's generally a learned familial trait that gets passed on no matter how hard you try to disregard your own upbringing. Someone was bad to their mother, too... and someone was bad to that person.... and so on and so on. You pass down what you learn. #1 reason i DIDN'T have kids. I LOVED my unborn children, & they didn't deserve to go through the horror & EXTREME beatings that i grew up with, and my folks before me(although in our day, having your hide skinned off by your parents was acceptable- but mine went beyond that) & my family would have treated my children badly, and that just MAY have made me murderous. I LOVED my family. Even if I didn't have one. Folks, when you hit that point of "it's gotta stop.." remove YOURSELF, not the child. A child HAS nowhere else to go. Lol, it WAS too funny seeing doctors/'therapists' suggest that it might just partially be my mom's fault- she blew a gasket in their office at the mere suggestion.- & those 2 docs looked at me in wide-eyed shock & helpless horror FOR me, jaws hanging OPEN. I'll never forget the look on their faces... I forgave myself that day. (My "problem" (their problem) was that I had withdrawn from all social pretenses & avoided any contact with any human. They're just too They couldn't help me if she wasn't going to let them. I just had to find a way out on my own(she was quite the queen of motives, lies, denial & "outward appearances." Even teachers suggested to me that "You don't have to live like this." But yes- when you're a teen in a small town, you're considered nothing but drama and no substance..there WAS NO HELP but to hit the old railroad tracks out of town & not look back at 14 yrs old. I got really lucky. Got out of that town and all of the sudden found out that there were people who WOULD help!) Don't give up. Don't become what you hate. It's too easy to fall prey to your own human nature. We must evolve. It's harder.

@Isabel Livieva - We can't throw a blanket statement over all cases. Some ppl can eat peanuts, some people nearly die from them. Same thing, different reaction. Clearly, the long term abuse, neglect and cruelty these girls endured turned them around so far.. it appears the constant put downs, yelling and condescending treatment on a day to day basis drove them way over the line, as it would! Long term abuse since childhood can do horrible things to people, re-wire their brains, lose their sanity.. These girls tried to make it, they tried. They worked, they did the right thing.. seemingly doing well.. only for their place of comfort turned into a living hell. How much more 'evidence' do you need...
@wobblyjelly345
4 жыл бұрын
@Isabel Livieva You clearly don't see that for all their life, they were victims. Free to leave and do what?? How do they survive?Where do they go? It's not that cut n dry. And we aren't comparing rapists and serial killers to these girls. They snapped. They didn't go around killing and raping people. They didn't just have a 'bad childhood', they had a bad life. Clearly you are so far removed from any understanding or perception of what this is like or the psychological and behavioural effects long term abuse has. While I haven't suffered what these girls went through, I know first hand the long term affects of mental and physical abuse. And Yes, these deaths are still horrendous and tragic, not taking that away, nor did they deserve to be murdered like that.. But we must understand WHY.

I recall my mother asking me to wake her from a nap when I was 7. When the time arrived for me to wake her I knocked on the door and was greeted with " LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE GD STUPID KID ". That was 44 years ago and I can still see myself at eye level with the door knob getting yelled at for something I was told to do. My biological father was very emotionally abusive saying I was a lying piece of shit , a piece of crap and good for nothing. My step-father would constantly try to start physical fights with me when I was in my early to mid teens. Many years later I was 36 and he was 65+ when he tried it again. Difference was that this time I stood up to him. He literally ran away like a little girl when approached by me. I'm telling you this to let you know what emotional and verbal abuse does or can do to a person. I now have bipolar disorder, have had a few suicide attempts and trust absolutely no one %100, not even my wife. Also my temper is extreme when not on meds. Because of the possibility of an explosive temper I no longer own guns . That was something I found necessary . I can function but am better left alone therefore I drive an 18 wheeler cross country. Folie a deux. They had only one another. Probably little schooling led them to believe a fortune teller's story about them being a couple in a previous life. The previous anger at the abuse they suffered was set off by Madame Lancelin pinching and treating Lea in a cruel manner. Then followed carnage. The treatment of the cadavers was sickening. Thank you Oddie for this nightmare of a story. Beautifully done and I sat on the edge of my chair.

This is a sad story. I spent 20 years being caretaker and ran the house of a very wealthy single woman. For reasons too complicated to explain , she physically assaulted me in the kitchen. Scratched and bruised my arm and hit me in the face hard enough to make my nose bleed. This was in front of of 3 witnesses. Needles to say I walked out never to return. No matter how sweet they may seem at first, telling you how much you are needed, but you soon become part of the family like an old stick of furniture . These women were the dregs of society. Lucy Espinal Denial is a powerful thing. I was sexually abused at 10 (and 11, and 12 etc...until I realized that I could just...leave the house before “they” came over) and no one did anything to stop it. The people I told did one of two things: they called me a liar (“you’re just trying to get a good man in trouble!”) or they suggested I had seduced him (which in their mind, made me a “gay” predator, even most of the men were in their 40’s+). Back then, being seen as “gay” brought on an especially violent form of hate and abuse...which is still seen even today.

I believe that I was spared the mental tragedy like these two sisters because I was able to determine that not everyone was against me due to my ear!ly association with a loving womanly motherly type. Perry, I'm sorry that happened to you and wanted to say I had a similar experience. I was always worried I would treat my son the same way I was treated by the person who emotionally beat me down, as SHE was treated that way by her mother. That didn't happen, though, and I think the major difference was the fact that I, too, had a loving, nurturing person in my family, who showed me what love was supposed to look like and truly cared about and loved me. I have come to realize that my abuser didn't have that, so she never really learned how to love and carried her own pain and hurt into every relationship. That doesn't make what happened to me ok, and it wasn't my fault, but it helped me understand the "why" of it, somewhat. I was also able to forgive them later in life. NOT for them, but for MYSELF, so I could get on with my own life. I'm so sorry to hear of your troubled childhood and the resulting pain from it. Love DOES heal! I hope you have found more of it in your life! You deserve it!! : )

These comments are ridiculous. I feel pity for the women, I really do. They had a bad life surrounded by very vain people. But how are the people in these comments giving them a pass for bad behaviour? They were in an incestuous relationship. They were caught. And then they butchered their employers. Yes the employers were horrible, but did they really deserve to have their eyes gauged out? Their heads smashed? Their buttocks and thighs slashed? And then they were going to cook them. On top of that they smeared the girl's menstrual blood all over them. Did you not see the pictures? And yet everyone is all "Boo hoo... we feel sorry for the sisters..." To me, sympathy for the sisters ended when the first eyeball popped out onto the floor. Period.

The Employers did treat them the best they had been treated, the girls had even called the Lady of the House "Mother". Which is not a common thing, years later she got upset about a task that wasn't done to her satisfaction. I understand because of the sister's history of abuse, and disgusting, horrific childhood they couldn't possibly develop any positive coping mechanisms. Yet again, they did thrive under several different individual's care (i.e. Convent, Uncle, etc.) I know they could not erase their past, but in these environments, they could have made positive strides in adjusting to society to some extent, because at that point neither had done anything violent that we know of.

Did you feel any empathy for the girls because of what they had been through!? People mention the word bitter. Personally I think this to be very unfair. You'd have to be superhuman to not be eternally affected. I don't condone the murders, but think that people who so casually throw about the word bitter really haven't suffered much themselves. Does that make sense?!! Bitter is only surface deep. What these girls lived through goes deep into the physche, yes? But I can't think of another word at this moment in time to describe their state of mind, perhaps you could come up with a term! One which implies both sympathy and justice...for all involved. Does one even exist?!!

I'm sixteen and I was sexually abused by a family member for 6 years (ages 4-10). I can tell you right now that when you are blamed by people you will do any thing to gain that feeling of control again. I'm not a psychologist but I honestly believe that they both just wanted control again and took out the anger in the form of murder on the people who were at their breaking point the ones considered the ones who dictate their life to them. I may be way, way off but I can imagine that is at least some what close to their thoughts.

I come on KZitem to listen to music or learn how to paint or play keyboard. This is my first ever attempt at watching anything horrific (even hesitated big time on clicking on the picture) You told the facts with such grace and intellect. I very may watch another by you as afterwards I don't have to spend weeks being traumatized. Lol Commenting on the sisters: We either take our life's rejections, anger, abuse as a victim or as a life lesson. Two people can be rejected by their birth mothers and then adopted. One turns their life into a Child and Youth Worker while the other is filled with rage, acts out by hurting others- killing animals and fantasizing on seeing the blood of another as soon as they give them the slightest reason (Trigger).

If the woman did so, I doubt she did it consciously. In fact, I rather doubt this was even a subconscious motive. I rather think she genuinely cared, but within the context of a classed system where she had power and privilege and they did not. This system provided her a social right to be both munificent and punitive. The sisters possessed no such right.

I assume Emilia lived out her life as a nun, since she was never mentioned again after that. Who knows what happened to make the employers start to dislike the sisters, after having been happy with them for years, even coming to their defense against their mother. Lots of details that were not explained.

I think you did a wonderful job bringing that story to light. The images all seemed appropriate as was the music. Your French pronunciation was actually quite fine. As for the story itself, grizzly. I can actually see the killer in the eyes of the one sister (the older one)... she really creeps me out. Thanks for this my daily dose of the macabre..

Maria Busani well once you became a nun at the time, you couldn't really just decide to not be a nun anymore. Assumedly she stayed, also possibly since convents are so cut off from the outside world, and communication was difficult back then, she may not have even known

Misery Dark Nope, they just have to take a vow of celibacy. In those days girls joined the order so young that they were usually virgins.

This was very well done for my tastes. Bravo! Usually, when I click a link and discover that Im about to hear a narrated story I quickly lose interest and find something else. Not this time though. Your voice is pleasing, you speak plainly and clearly, and this is the most important thing : YOU PUT THE WORDS ON THE SCREEN! That's magic for me because I often can't hear or understand what is being said and so I often tune out. Including pictures related to the events and your background and other related imagery are just icing on the cake. Well done sir. Call me a subscriber!
