@The Aussie Family I agree- was gonna say, funny how this happens for kids but I swear teachers always get sick in the holidays- my worst nightmare is having to isolate in the first week of hols. If I was positive on the first day of term I'd be relieved (tbh, better on the last week of term, first week means you have to go in and deal with the chaos next week rather than just going into the holidays and starting fresh next term).

The only thing better than finally leaving school is when your kids leave school, no more hour long queues in car parks waiting for your offspring to lazily wander out as if you had nothing better to do. No more trying to figure out how to help them with their homework that all seems to involve some sought of laptop/tablet that is just different enough from your computer to make it unusable to you. And the best of all, this one is for all the split families out there, no more having to explain to a narcissistic ex which half of the holidays they get & why, no bitterness there at all. I never understood school holidays or how they figured out the dates, still don't, but jeez it makes getting round major cities easier, another great video.

I think my folks were blessed I made it a habit to try and finish a game most holidays. RPG's, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Pokemon type of things. usually on an emulator. my PC couldnt handle shumps or fighters, but RPG's were OK. or stuff like Hack and its many variants. or timing my self to clock Apogee classics like secret agent or crystal caves. Round after round of Tyrian. AoE n WC2. Then I discovered multiplayer when I built a serial cable between my PC and the family one, which actually strung out one window, around the outside, and back in another window in the other end of the house. BTW, I built that PC from second hand and scavenged parts, scrimped n saved for ages for that. Warcraft 2 and Age of empires. we generally spent an hour or so making a MASSIVE map, then gamed it out. made some tweaks, and did it again. that kept two kids entertained for hours. they thought it very VERY odd that 2x 12yo boys could sit practically silent for that long. I did challenge my dad to a game once, and actually went pretty easy on him for a few rounds. once he realised how involved it was, didnt really question it any more. of course I destroyed him every time with ever escalating tactics. Land invasion one round, so he built heaps of foot soldiers next. then a sea bombardment. then a dragon hoard. built a ton of archers, so in went the catapults. Then In highschool we discovered LAN parties and the classic FPS's, CS, TF, UT, BF1942, which got faaar more rowdy. we had discovered caffeine and testosterone by then. but it was pretty fair, 6 major players, a few ring-ins. so most highschool holidays only needed one hosting. the rest of the time we were elsewhere, or sleeping off a 36 hour bender. It did irreparable damage to my sleep routine, but a pretty damn good time.
