In 1979, Birmingham News photographer Jerry Ayres and reporter Mark Winne pursue a car driving through the Birmingham area with a hand waving for help from the trunk.
It's insane how journalists used to have such integrity. Amazing job guys

He wasn't asking to be saved, he was asking for a cigarette.

Its great they found this dude, but imagine how many people cross cars that have people in them that are never discovered.

For someone who took pictures of a hand sticking out of a trunk, these guys are so humble.

Stabbed, robbed, beaten, stuffed in the trunk of a car. Asks for a cigg immediately after he's freed. Lol, that's hardcore.

This would never happen today. People are so quick to “mind their own business” or think “someone else will take care of it”. These folks tracked the car down, didn’t have cell phones and still saved dude’s life!

That’s my grandfather! He was such an amazing person. He passed in 88. We remember them telling us about this and my grandma kept the news article.
