@@chrism45 LMAO I'm sorry, I love me the pants off of Janis, but the idea that she didn't sing in a way that would damage her voice is hysterical. I don't see any evidence of improper technique with this girl.

The woman featured in "Children Where I Go Send Thee" is no other than the Gospel legend, Twinkie Clark of The Clark Sisters. Her mother, Dr. Mattie Moss Clark was one of the first choir directors to popularize the three part harmony in Gospel choirs. Dr. Clark and her daughters are amazingly skilled singers. They're still touring and recording albums today and have had a nearly 50 year successful career run.

I like how some of the judges on the voice know the song the contestant is singing well enough that they wait until the singer nails the specific difficult notes of a song before deciding on the person. Sometimes you can sing well but still not be able to hit the harder notes (or have picked a bad song for your vocal range) and you can just see the judges waiting ready to spin their chair if the person can do it.

When will we celebrate low notes as well like this?
@TransparentEclipse
3 жыл бұрын
Low notes are nice, but they are not as reaction invoking as high notes. Low notes are calming and soothing, they make u listen but not turn, the high notes are what triggered a reaction in us that makes us perk up. It’s psychological, unfortunately. It also helps that usually ppl start low and then go high to showcase their range and control, not the other way around. Usually if u can go high, u can go low. Not the case the other way around

@@TransparentEclipse excuse me what? "Usually if u can go high, u can go low. Not the case the other way around". I am in disbelief of that. I hear guys like Tim Foust or Geoff Castellucci from Home Free or VoicePlay respectively (a cappella groups btw for the uninformed) and those guys can reach reach low notes that would register on the richter then sing a high note that you wouldn't think they could reach based on how low they just were. I've NEVER heard a singer who can sing impressive high notes AND also go down low and sound good as well. If I'm ignorant please educate me. Edit: I guess Dimash would be an example but he's an alien. His lowest notes obviously aren't as low as the names I just mentioned but he certainly has the range. But again, he's an alien. It's not the norm.

About the girl who sang Janis Jopin’s song , If you were surprised by her high notes ...maybe you should check the original...I admit it was kind of freakish I tought Janis high jacked that woman’s body from the grave for one moment !
@margicates553
4 жыл бұрын
It was definitely unsafe singing.
@SakiBlablabla
3 жыл бұрын
True , I guess you got to have lived to some shit and be born with a particular instrument for it to be almost natural ! Janis had a damaged voice cause substance and alcohol abuse , but she was also classically trained and she had a pretty rare ability to naturally sing two octaves at the same time , which is why she was able to do those incredible high « cries » so easily ! But you are right it was a particularity of her voice and many damage their voices by trying to emulate it , which is highly unsafe !
@margicates553
3 жыл бұрын
Not-Not Nooo two octaves is not rare. It’s damaged, and singing in a damaging way. I just think it’s sad.
@SakiBlablabla
3 жыл бұрын
margi cates ...It is sad indeed ! I never said other wise ! And I know it is not that rare , but I don’t know not everybody can sing to octaves at the same time , and probably should not even try, unless maybe in a traditional safer way like diaphonic chants ! I don’t know , I understand that it is unsafe and technically damaging but I find your replies particularly rude , condescending and elitist, at least that is how it comes across to me ! Everybody knows what Janis did was completely unsustainable and damaging ! But we don’t need to be guilt tripped for enjoying the art of a damaged artist who lived a short life of misery as despite her damaged voice and her risky technique she had more soul than many incredible technicians ! I guess were I do agree with you in a sense is that young artists should not force themselves to emulate her style, it will damage a perfectly healthy instrument ! She sang like that because her voice was damaged ! People nowadays do sing like that because they find it cool , or necessary because they are covering a Janis Joplin song ! Which does damage their voices and that is sadder ! We don’t need to copy and paste when we cover a song , I wish people who cover her songs made them more their own instead of a weird hybrid between their natural voice and a very forced and damaging attempt to emulate her voice !

I’ve watched the original and that start is not the same, Janis’ was more gradual, lower & more controlled... that’s not to say that lady didn’t embody Janis Joplin the rest of the song, I just think her screams were not the greatest here

You missed one - the judges were crying for real on this one" The Voice of Poland - Dorota Osińska - „Calling You" The song is very difficult because the background comping is a series of suspensions: meaning, the singer has to be in tune on their own no roots or melody notes in the backup. She is also singing this a half step ABOVE the original.
