When I'm falling asleep in a tent or a cabin in the middle of a summer night and the Loon calls and it echoes like this....I think that is my favourite sound in the world. thank you for posting!

DelorienAz when I was younger around 6 or 7 I was getting ready for school when I heard a loon call and it was so beautiful but I didn’t find out that it was a loon until right now. It is 11:06pm on a school night 7 years later. This sound has brought me so much peace and nostalgia

Their calls are pretty if theres enough time between the calls, but when theres a whole bunch of them calling without taking the time to take a breath in between, it makes it very hard for me to sleep. I remember yelling at them and theyd stop for a second, and then slowly ramp back up to incessant cooing while i cover my head with my pillow.

Loons mate for life. They're calling out to each other, usually after sunset. The other call you might here is a warning that a predator is near. Both such beautiful, peaceful sounds of nature.

This is a sound I associate with summer nights. My grandparents owned a cabin on a lake and loons could be heard in the middle of the night. I have fond memories of waking up in pitch darkness and falling back to sleep to the calls of the loons. I must find land on a lake somewhwre 😊

i just now realized this is the sound that shows up in games like Age of Empires. I always wondered what it was. For some reason I associated it with gazelles. Maybe because there were always gazelles around visually, but the loons were hidden, always making their calls from an unseen distance.

When you are camping for the very first tme in the Adirondacks and hear the call of the loon, believe you me, it is a "haunting sound". When you get used to it and know what it is, then you realize just how beautiful it is. And to see them as you slowly paddle your canoe on any of the lakes is even more wonderful.

Something similar to this used to Coo about a mile from my house, it sounded like, every night at about 6-7 pm right when the sun is going over the horizon.
