Saturday, August the 12th, 2017 saw Hans Heysen's masterpiece 'The Camp on the Wonoka Creek' return home to Hahndorf.
The painting, which is thought to be Heysen’s largest watercolour, was discovered in a private collection in Germany where the famous artist was born. The masterpiece was then picked up by an international art dealer and sent back to South Australia.
The Duffield Family (owners of The Haus Restaurant) saw it as their opportunity to preserve the Heysen legacy in Hahndorf when the auction for the watercolour was announced.
An extremely competitive auction saw the watercolour eventually sell for $110,000 - well above the estimated $60,000 price point.
The masterpiece is available for all to see at The Haus Restaurant - 38a Main Street, Hahndorf SA 5245.
