The Hellas Group is installing Matrix Helix® monofilament synthetic turf at Galveston ISD's Kermit-Courville Stadium. The Hellas Group is also installing a Cushdrain® shock pad below the surface to absorb shock and improve field drainage. The Tors of Galveston Ball are getting almost a complete make-over at this classic stadium. “We are keeping the cement that has stood almost 85 years and a lot of hurricanes plus adding new bleachers,” says Galveston ISD Superintendent Jerry Gibson. “We are also putting in new restrooms, locker rooms, field house and of course the Matrix Helix turf by The Hellas Group,” adds Gibson. “I’ve had a great relationship with The Hellas Group, who installed a similar turf system at my former school district in East Texas Marshall High School.” “When you do good work people come back for more,” says Galveston ISD Director of Athletics Bob Jones. “We’re going to go with Matrix Helix turf," adds Jones “The best turf on the market.” “The turf itself is one of the fastest and safest types of turf that you can play on,” according to Business Development Manager of The Hellas Group Tony Heath. “Our monofilament Matrix Helix is what the NFL is playing on as The Hellas Group has installed this same Matrix Helix turf system in 11 NFL facilities.” The Hellas Group is also installing Ecotherm® infill at Kermit-Courville Stadium, which will keep the field temperatures 30 degrees cooler than traditional black crumb rubber.
