We lived in deep South Alabama when I was a baby through 6 years. Our neighbors had black help & they were always sweet & kind. I asked my mom why we didn't have one & at the age of 5 my mom taught me about what she called slave wages and the importance of equality & fair wages for a fair day's work. I've carried this with me my whole life

Many of us out here was that little girl. Never underestimate the power of rejection. She taught that little girl and gave her permission to love herself. To thine own self be true. You can't give away what you don't have.

Patty Labell well yes, that is the whole point of the comment! She cared so much for that girl and to that girl she was only love. That girl had learned to see with her heart because of The Help and and she loved her so much, why would someone cry for that girl? Because pretty much the only who would really care for her was leaving, the one who would have guided her wouldn’t be there anymore, she would be left to the hands of her incapable mother.

I cleaned house for a Jewish family and babysat their 7 year old son. One day the little boy's mom came home when we were playing a game and asked her son who he loved more, me or her. He looked at both of us and, not wanting to hurt either of our feelings, said, " I love you both." She fired me.

Ms Davis should not regret this making this movie. Skeeter was no savior, she used her gift to write, they all had compassion for each other. They were human and they made us feel what they felt.
@mrj.kottari8453

The scene where Eugenia ("Skeeter"), Aibilene and Minny are in Aibilene's kitchen talking about should the book project be cancelled and Minny raises her voice about how the cancellation would mean Hilly Hillbrook will win her segregational "campaign" against the black help, is clear example how Skeeter is more of a tool that gives voice to the black maids than she's a White Savior...

This movie is beautiful. When I was reading the book, I felt like I was in it for real. Seeing all different kinds of the perspectives of the maids. My favorite is Minnie. She always spoke how she felt, never hiding her anger. This movie is an all see one. Describing a beautiful message that no matter what, despite the scorn of others, is to continue fighting.

I wish I could tell black ppl (especially young people) how I saw it. p.s. I remember going to the movies and black people had to sit in the balcony and use the side entrance. I am likely one of the most confused white-lookin ladies on the planet. As a kid, I grew up where there were no blacks, so the other kids chose me since my mom was hapa-indigenousAmerican. Called me n*****, spat on me, bullied me for my full lips. Then I moved to Hawaii, where I was a minority and learned what "beat up a haole day" meant. This movie meant the world to me. My own sisters turned me into the family maid. This movie - cried and laughed and loved it all the way through.
