I love the solemnity in this piece. Nobody involved in this fight is being selfish. Freya is trying to free herself from Odin's malicious influence. Kratos is helping an old friend break her curse. Niddhog is carrying out her sacred duty to protect the roots of the World Tree. It's simply a tragedy, and the music conveys that really well.

I felt horrible for Niddhog. She had no idea the seriousness of the situation. She just assumed that the tree was being harmed, and acted in defense of it, not realizing that the only parts of the tree, if you could even call them that, being harmed were sick, twisted roots of Odin's foul magic. If Atreus was there, he could have possibly reasoned with Niddhog, but he was nowhere to be found...

0:56 - 1:06 is my favorite part. You know it is THE MOMENT old God of War has returned. You understand THE STAKES AND MAGNITUDE of this fight. When Freya screams: *"Is that what Sparta taught you? Close your ground!"* And then you rush Níðhögg like a mad man with Blades of Chaos and proceed to pull it out of the realm tear with such a beautiful leitmotif... Just unforgettable. Really reminded me of GoW 2005 Hydra boss fight. Also that Nordic choir and choice of "Viking" insturments - *chef kiss*

Kratos really didn't want to kill the beast, & was VERY lucky doing so didn't have any major longterm consequences. No god death actually affects the Viking world like doing it did in Greece which was kind of a letdown. Still sime amazing fights though.

This was the most unexpected but fun boss fight in the game (for me at least, but I think the unexpected part was for everyone), because like, yk how like some fights like Thor and Odin you just *know* are going to happen, but like Nidhogg was so unexpected cause like Nidhogg literally has no stakes in Kratos and Atreus' story. And so I could never have expected a the Beast of the freaking Yggdrasil to show up as a boss fight. And that too a good one sheesh. Probably is my favorite boss fight in the whole game. Besides that the whole atmosphere of the fight is freaking fantastic too. Along with the music. The music has parts of both Freya and Kratos' theme which seems to suggest that this fight means everything to both her and Kratos. This was an amazing part of the game. And I love how towards the end Kratos' theme becomes so much more heroic. I just love how Kratos' theme in this game is so much more heroically badass, and not like filled with grief or rage.

Odin: "Beneath the tree Yggdrasil are three roots, which grow in three directions. Hel is beneath one, Jotunheim beneath another, Midgard beneath the third. "A squirrel is named Ratatosk, he runs along the trunk of Yggdrasil. He takes the words of the eagle, tell his insults to Nidhogg below. "There are four deers who stretch out their necks and eat the leaves of Yggdrasil; Dain and Dvalin, Duneyr and Durathror. "No fool has ever guessed how many serpents lie beneath Yggdrasil. I think that Goin and Moin, Grabak and Grafvolluth, Ofnir and Svafnir, sons of the snake Grafvitnir, will always gnaw that tree's roots. "The tree Yggdrasil endures more pain than any men guess, It's eaten from above by deers, on the side by rot, from beneath by serpents. (Stanza 31 - 35, Grimnismal, Poetic Edda)

Fun Fact: When Kratos and Freya killed Nidhogg they actually saved the Yggdrasil from being destroyed. Because in norse mythology Hraesvelgr and Nidhogg fight against each other causing the world tree getting destroyed

I saw a hall that stood far from the sun on the beaches of corpses; the doors face north. Drops of poison fall through the roof; its walls are encircled by serpents. I saw oathbreakers wading in those thick streams, and murderers, and those who seduce others' lovers. There Nidhogg sucks the corpses of the fallen, snaps them in his jaws. Have you learned enough yet, Allfather? (Stanza 37 - 38, Voluspa, Poetic Edda.)
