This is a house I can actually imagine living in. My fav so far.

Agreed... Pratt's restraint resulted in the creation of what would have been an enduring masterpiece, had it not been converted to commercial use...

At least it wasn't demolished, as were far too many others, sadly.

Platt is my favorite architect! Blending interiors with outdoor spaces which he learned how to do with his, and his brother's ,trip to Italy, resulting in a book entitled Italian Gardens-one of the first books featuring real photographs! There is a home in Gross Pointe Farms that I visited and the interiors were exactly the same as built. Beautiful!!

For what is called “modest” I think this home is lovely and rather Grand with 21 rooms. It’s a beautiful home both interior and exterior as shown in the photos. It’s really a shame that the original interior was stripped down for modern!! But at least the house itself and the exterior was left intact. It’s so lovely a home. Thanks Ken for another wonderful video of a beautiful home 😊👍💯❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦

It was so much fun during the few years I lived in Glen Cove…there are so many Gold Coast remains in that suburb by Long Island Sound. I used to walk my dogs very early in the mornings along Welwyn which ai believed was also part of the Pratt dynasty and I swear the place is haunted

Lovely place, inside and out! I wonder how stripped it is though? Hopefully they kept some of the ornate features and rooms and mainly only changed kitchen, bathrooms,, took out servant rooms etc. Wishful thinking on my part !

I would love to have another series that zooms in on the residential technology that was incorporated into these houses. I've visited Henry Ford's Fairlane, and had a 1-person guided tour of the garage and power plant (designed by Henry's friend, Thomas Edison). I saw Edsel Ford's home power plant as well. The Vanderbilt estate on the Hudson has a power plant and an ice house, with no mechanical refrigeration in the kitchens. I love to find out about old electrical systems, elevators, home gas illumination systems and other interesting details. I am a historian of technology and would be happy to help.

I grew up in Glen Cove. Pratt was always a big name as well as Morgan and Woolworth.

It would be interesting to watch a video about how you would put together a dream home if it had a basically unlimited budget. From your experience, what matters and what doesn't. I had an older relative who lived in one of these type homes you featured and the maintenance & upkeep workers were on autodial and the bills in large stacks.

Nice work!! Can you please do something with Beacon Hill in Boston?? There are some stately townhomes around Louisburg Square and some rather large from a bye gone era much like this episode has emphasized only better as there is a story to Beacon Hill and Back Bay in Boston as well as Brookline, just outside the downtown area.

Casual dress was different then. It wasn’t cargo shorts and Carnival Cruise tshirts. My great uncle cut his yard in a dress shirt and necktie.

Perhaps it can be repurchased and restored based upon photos. Providing of course if there is a photographic record of all the rooms.
