Boy! They don't make opening themes like that anymore!!! This is still a legendary theme tune to this day!!

really? it's true most shows don't have time with commercials to even have a theme song anymore, but, hey, the simpsons has a great theme song, and so does game of thrones.

I really like good solid theme songs but I like the ones played when the show is coming on or going off the original sound tracks with all the drums all the guitars and all the violins not a copy my heart is made of music and I know what is original or what is not. And my ear always tell me.

Television today just sucks. I'm so glad I was alive in the 60s and 70s to have personally witnessed all the great TV shows and music. People had morals and values back then. Today, it's hard to find in anyone. I wish I could go back in time because I'd get the hell out of 2015.

Yeah, I remember the 80s and 70s too and it was a different time than now (literally and figuratively speaking)...it seemed like the westerns and the the other tv content at the time instilled a different sense of character and morality than the television of today does...my digital converter box quit working in 2012 and I never bought a new one, so I don't watch television per se anymore...except for a few choice cooking shows that people upload to youtube that I download and watch at my leisure...I also am downloading the seasons of the old shows That I liked from that period as a type of archival keepsake and to watch when the mood strikes...

Thanks for posting this gem! This was a great series and I'll always remember it as it was one of the few programmes transmitted in colour in 1971 when I got my first colour TV. It cost a fortune at the time but watching this series made it worth while......

I remember this show mostly for it being the first network show I watched the day we got our first color TV. Everything I watched before this came on was just local programming and news. I was blown away at the colors used in the background of the opening credits.

One of the great, great tv themes. Rousing, majestic, unforgettable. When it originally aired I was a grammar schooler and its main appeal for me then was the theme. Now I enjoy the series itself--when I can find a channel that will air it, I mean--because it brings back memories of my grandma, who adored tv westerns and police shows. Thanks for sharing.

As a side note. Marta Victoria Moya Burges, otherwise known as Linda Cristal, was also a recording artist as well. She came out with a 45 rpm 7" recording with the Coral Label, Catalog Number 62060, that had two Tracks: 'A Perfect Romance' & 'It's Better in Spanish.' It was released in 1958.

The theme song or the episodes? You know you can download the theme from this page and put it on MP3 or burn it to disc. There is probably a KZitem channel where someone has uploaded all the episodes (Iknow there was a few years ago and the channel was named after the main character of the series Big John Gannon or something. Cheers!

I used to pretend to be sick so I could stay home from school when I was a kid, just so I'd catch the single episode of High Chaparall shown at ten or so in the morning on Swedish TV in the 90's. Sigh... Those were the days. Unfortunately, my mom got better and better at guessing when I was actually sick and when I wasn't. Blegh. >_>

I read that Dave Dortort, who also produced Bonanza, sort of left the latter show flapping in the wind to concentrate on High Chaparral, and this is one reason the last few seasons of Bonanza were not nearly as good.
