Whitehill and Bordon Regeneration - this is the full route of the new bypass from Broxhead to Whitehill. Filmed in HD using a DJI Phantom Drone between June and October 2017.
The route follows part of the Longmoor Military Railway trackbed. The first section cuts across the redeveloped Louisburg Barracks site before joining the trackbed on the coal yard branch past Havanna Officers Mess to arrive at Oakhanger Halt.
After the road crossing, the line enters the technical areas of the SEME and REME (now a commercial industrial estate), in the 1940's this included the Royal Canadian Ordnance stores and sidings of Halifax, Toronto, Vancouver and Ottowa. Just before the large stores (seen on the right as the trackbed bears left at 2:08) there are the remains of a large concrete head-shunt which is fenced off due to subsidence.
The inset photograph shows the build up of armaments that was shipped to the channel ports prior to D-Day - from the background this was taken within the stores area.
Leaving the stores area the line traverses Hogmoor Inclosure parallel to the Halifax sidings (the buffer stop is left stranded in a sea of mud at the Southern end), passing Woolmer Pond on the right (used for wet-bridging trials until the piles driven into the pond drained it) and via a deep cutting to the site of the Whitehill Tunnel.
At the fullest extent of the tunnel-cutting excavation, remains of the 18" pre-fabricated track (used to move the Longmoor huts to Bordon in 1903 - 1905) were found, the rails being used with wooden sleepers to shore the sides of the cutting seen at 4:07. There is an inset photograph of two sleepers and rail at 2:50 which were found at Whitehill.
The last photograph at 4:25 is a rare shot of the bridge at Whitehill crossroads, from a postcard dated 1910. The cyclist presumably being a policeman from the station housed in the abandoned Longmoor hut that 'fell off' the dual 18" railway on its way to Bordon.......
