Grew up in North Flushing, FHS graduate in the 80s. Will be interesting in 50 to 100 years from now how the Chinese and/or the country of China explain the history of Flushing. As it will be entirely owned by the Chinese gov't by then.

i'm puerto rican but my old lady is a descendant of the Bownes/Parsons. every year we pay a visit to Bowne House. it's crazy learning about that old history. i'm not sure if it's known or talked about much, but the foundation for the house has documents proving Bowne House was a "stop" on the underground railroad later on and they helped free slaves. last time we were there this last summer they were talking about how the house or history isn't even really taught in local schools, and they're trying to change that. there's a lot of history in that little house.
