Lacawac Sanctuary has a long history in the Pocono Mountains. From it's connections to the creation of Lake Wallenpaupack to being the first second home in the Poconos Mountains and quite possibly the Pocono's first vacation property for rent. Lacawac is not only a great place to explore but it is also an important scientific resource known for being the southern most protected glacial lake in the United States formed during the Ice Age. This segment is part 3 of a 4 part series written and narrated by Chad Reed Watres, the great grandson of Colonel Watres, who had the original idea to dam the Wallenpaupack River to harness the Hydroelectric potential of the river to power local rail transportation. Part 3 covers the History of Lacawac following World War II and how the Watres Family restored the property and then gave it all away. Stay tuned for the final segment of the series coming up next month.
