"I must make two honest confessions to you, my Christian and Jewish brothers. First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection." -Martin Luther King Jr. (Letter from the Birmingham Jail)

@Joscope

..all true, and yet somehow what gets equally lost is the concept that Dr. King's "methods of direct action" did not include violence or intimidation but compete nonviolence patterned after what Gandhi had done in India. Nothing wrong with confrontation as long as it is peaceful but today, no matter what the issue seemingly, there is a threat and undertone that violence, racism, or the loss of some basic right will result if conditions and timetables are not met. It's easy to latch on to Dr. King's philosophies and methodologies regarding equality and civil rights when much of Christian principles he espoused regarding loving your enemies and having charity for all get ignored. Today as it always has and always will, the ideology of "No Justice, No Peace" is like drinking poison and expecting your adversary to die. MLK knew that. It's too bad so many today don't or are even willing to consider.

Though MLK was a great man and an evangelical advocate preaching pacifist ideals….it was really Malcolm X Who advocated action , especially in the BULLET OR BALLOT speech that would’ve been more impactful. Here’s an excerpt from that speech. Malcolm X: (05:59) We must understand the politics of our community. And we must know what politics is supposed to produce. We must know what politics play in our lives. And until we become politically mature? We will always be misled, lead astray, or deceived, or maneuvered into supporting someone politically, who doesn’t the good of our community at heart. So the political philosophy of Black Nationalism only means that we will have to carry on a political program of reeducation: to open our people’s eyes; make us because more politically conscious, politically mature; and then we will, whenever we get ready to cast our ballot? That ballot will be cast for a man of the community, who has the good of the community at heart. Malcolm X: (06:52) The economic philosophy of Black Nationalism only means that we should own, and operate, and control the economy of our community. You can’t open up a black store in a white community. White men won’t even patronize you. And he’s not wrong! He’s got sense enough to look out for himself. It’s you who don’t have sense enough to look out for yourself. Malcolm X: (07:19) The white man is too intelligent to let someone else come and gain control of the economy of his community. But you will let anybody come in and control the economy of your community. Control the housing. Control the education. Control the jobs. Control the businesses, under their pretext that you want to integrate. No! You out of your mind! He was killed because Malcolm X was right…

It must be so puerile to accept MLK as a hero.... the real Hero was Stalin and USSR who forced the Americans to "act" as non racist, and with time the "act" when fused with vote bank politics of democrats became civil rights "achievement". The achievement of civil rights for blacks being 90% of blacks do not know who their father is, take pimps as role models, and are drug addicts.
