She may be old, but she's still bold. The legacy of the name Enterprise is one of honor, service, and sacrifice. From the days of wood and sail when our country was new, to the carrier who bore the number CV-6 and made her mark on world history in the dark days of WWII, to this grand old lady who brought the world into the atomic age and proudly served more than twice her expected lifespan. And although she'll likely suffer the fate of her namesake, and will sadly soon be gone, her memories will live on. She's forever number one, the first CVN and by far the most decorated. And the torch will be passed to CVN-80, the ninth ship to bear the name that is as old as the Navy itself. Even though she'll die, the Big E will continue to stand as a beacon of valor, hope, and grit, as long as her stories are told and remembered. There will never be a US Navy without a ship named Enterprise. Rest now old girl, we have the watch. USS Enterprise CVN-65 1961-2013 "We are Legend" Forever the "First and finest"

One such story. In 1971, during the Pakistan-India war, the USS Enterprise CVN-65 was deployed to the Bay of Bengal on the side of West Pakistan, at the time a US client state. From there she was promptly chased away by a Soviet naval task force sent from Vladivostok and led by two nuclear submarines.

I am the widow of Delbert D. Girty. I was 7 weeks pregnant when he was killed by the explosion. It was a beautiful ship I was aboard the ship in 1967 and again in November 2012 for the decommission ceremonies.

Sounds like bullshit to me considering online records have no mention of a Maria Girty. That took less than 10 seconds to call your bluff

He ran her aground in San Fran Bay, Pilots fault, he got the blame. Was made a Commodore {one star} instead of Rear Admiral {two star}, now days it's called Rear Admiral Lower & Upper respectivley.
