This is exactly what I needed. Very amazing video. I've just started reading the manga, famous for its legendary status, and it drops you right into the time period. Actually, for an South Asian like me, already having to deal with the more later, world dominant Britain in history classes, it gets very difficult to comprehend or 'get the feels' for this style of historical fiction, which is never focused on in our normal educational curriculum, explaining why I often stay away from watching heavily western films, the ones depicting the wild west, sheriffs and all that. For Vinland Saga I needed to get a grasp of who the vikings were, what Anglo-Saxon meant and how much of an accurate depiction I was watching, all of which were answered definitively in your video in a very short amount of time, unlike any other video I've watched. Also, it's actually a blessing to see you talking about anime and history, something very rare and barely cared upon but very much necessary in the modern anime platform. It's disappointing how every movie out there is judged heavily on historical accuracy but there's hardly anything or anyone there sought after to provide readymade proof of that when it comes to anime and manga. The fact that you are uploading right now despite being very beginner friendly and criminally underrated is very amazing. You have my subscription and support, I'll talk about this channel with my friends. Keep up the amazing work!

Hey, wow, thank you for such a thoughtful and kind comment. I'm delighted you enjoyed it and that the information was helpful for you. I have many ideas for future videos but might need to slow down uploads a bit to build up my skills to be able to deliver them how I want. In any case, thanks for your support and encouragement. I will probably be revisiting your words when I need a push!

@@Areveny I have a question. In History I was taught that Barbarians that attacked Western Rome were known to be from Germanic tribes. Such as the Franks. What confuses me is, that in this video you say that the Vikings are Germanic/Norse and speak predominantly Germanic, or Norse. You also stated that Germanic has nothing to do with Germany (for the vikings that is). I'm very confused about the blood difference of Vikings and Barbarians since I've now heard that they're both Germanic. Does this mean that one is from Germany and the other is not, or possibly none? Or is there a different word for "Germanic" that i'm mixing up? Or are they actually the same blood?

@@bobross4616 Barbarians was a term used by the Roman people to refer to many groups of non-Roman people, of whom the Germanic people were one group among many. The Franks were a Germanic tribe, and therefore was part of this group of barbarians. The Viking Age, from the 8th and the 11th centuries, took place much after the fall of the Roman Empire. But if they had coexisted, Vikings would have been considered barbarians by the Romans, because they are Germanic. By being two Germanic groups, the Franks and the Vikings were somewhat related. The Germanic peoples were an ethno-linguistic group, meaning they have similar ethnic roots and speak related (in this case, Germanic) languages. This is unrelated to whether or not these groups resided in what is now Germany. The Franks and Vikings were active in different eras, but their classification as Germanic peoples implies a shared origin from the early Germanic people in Scandanavia around year 0. I would suggest reading the Wikipedia articles for "Germanic peoples," and the other groups that you're confused about. After a couple of deliberate readings it starts to make more sense, my video is a more simplified attempt of sharing this information.

This video won't do very much at all for helping you understand the actual plot of the show, unfortunately.
