It's really too bad about this movie, what a missed opportunity. I like C Thomas Howell. He also played a cop in a movie called (To protect and serve) which was pretty good if memory serves me right. To me if someone did a sequel to the Hitcher, they should either make John Ryder an iconic killer like Jason or Michael who could actually come back from multiple shotgun blasts. Or even more interesting, have an Exorcist 3 type plot where John Ryder commits his crimes through other people. After all, wasn't he trying to control Jim Halsey to a certain degree in the first one? Anyway thanks for the review Cody. I will definitely be skipping this movie 🎬

This movie started off with the right idea, I think, focusing on Jim Halsey and his difficulty dealing with the trauma from the events of the first movie. But it quickly comes off the rails by simply remaking the first movie and putting a female in the lead role (ironically, the same thing the remake did!). What I would do for a sequel to The Hitcher: Begin the movie in a similar way. Pick up with an older Jim Halsey, now an FBI special agent who tracks serial killers. He has something of a checkered professional and personal history due to his trauma from the first movie. I'd still keep Kari Wuhrer as his fiance. They keep planning to get married, but Jim's work forces them to keep postponing the wedding. This time, though, I'd have Jim brought out of suspension because of a new serial killer in Texas who's M.O. matches that of John Ryder. There would be a twist in my version that ties in with the original. I would either have one of the victims presumed dead still be alive and revealed as the killer. For instance, perhaps one of the children in the station wagon could have survived the attack and blamed Jim for letting his family die. Or, it could be a child of one of the police officers Ryder murdered, coming after Jim for revenge. Anyway, it would be along those lines. 🤔

Lol. Doesn't surprise me (quality of II). I don't think the original made much in the theaters and seems like it's become a semi cult classic but still not that well known back in 2003. Had the original on VHS and then DVD but also waited for a while for the soundtrack to be released on CD (don't recall when that was but probably the late 90's?). I guess I skipped the laser disc version if there was one. But, just found out about II an hour ago and would have checked it out out of curiosity when I saw Howell in the thumbnail for the poster but not now if it's that bad. Sometimes when you watch terrible sequels it spoils, to whatever degree large or small, your viewing pleasure of the original. Matrix II and III come to mind. lol.
