Yo, if you're on a budget and looking for crabbin bait......... try out making chumb cubes. Take whatever smelly stuff you have (offal, fat, skin, old bait rotten fish ect~) and blend it all with some grit (oats, grains ect~) and freeze the mixture into bricks. cover with a bait bag / light cloth before you put a brick into the crab snare and ur good to go. One thing to note is make sure you make big bricks because small ice cub sized ones will just melt to fast.

In the uk crabbing is a common sight at the coast, we use a drop net type of trap and they are sold everywhere at the beach, it’s fun for all the family, I carb for bait and there are no laws on what size you can take, I use peeler crabs for beach fishing! It’s fun and free bait, I have never see this they befor very interesting 👏🏻

My man...my kids and I are addicted to your videos. Thanks for taking the time to create such great material. I have a request...will you please do a gear episode. I am always trying to get the most bang for the buck on everything from snares (which you've covered exhaustively already) to rods, reels, plastics, tackle, etc etc. I would love to hear what you have to say on the subject. I am in the market for a good versitile rod/reel combo that is lightweight enough to fish all day with but strong enough to handle a lingcod hooked off a CA cliff. I have always been of the mind that I would rather buy 5 x $40 reels over time than a single $200 reel since I am so hard on my gear but now that I have a real job I might be up for a little investment! Also, I'll add that I really appreciate when you take the time to thoroughly describe the knots, rigs, tackle you are using. Keep em coming! Kids are definitely getting some merch for xmas!

In the ocean (not inside sf bay) which is outside of the golden gate. You're allowed as many rods as you are capable of attending to (judgement will be made by the wardens) as long as you're not fishing for rockfish or salmon. If for instance he set out 5 rods (1 with a hook and line with bait and the other 4 for crabs) on that 1 rod and catches a rockfish and decides to keep it, he now must reel in all his other lines and only be able to leave one out. Even if he were to just throw a crab snare after keeping that 1 rockfish he can still only have 1 rod out and that 1 rod must not have more than 2 hooks on the line.

Definitely, but its still quite a pure hobby, its fishing, its one of the most basics of things we would've done and continue to do to this day. This is still low tech compared to proper fishing by companies. I like the fact its still quite primative. Even though the tools are more technical.
