Hi, John - Great question! Because after almost a year of eating wonderful Italian fresh seafood, meats, veggies, every single day, I wanted to see how their most popular item on the menu tasted. It was recommended by a local (and the waitress). I used to eat pizza and all the pastas and such until my diabetes got bad. Now I really cut a lot out so the bacon cheeseburger is a splurge while I am face-to-face watching my husband enjoy his awesome Italian pizza. 😋 I sure do appreciate your comment and thanks for watching! 💕

I look at properties in Italy all the time, but excluding some of the major cities (Rome, Venice, Florence, Milan and Turin) I continue to be surprise by the affordability. If you are willing to live in a small isolated village (not for me), you can sometimes cut cost by 1/3 to a little less than 1/2.
@TheSicilianLife
2 ай бұрын
You and me both! I'm surprised this "apartment" we rented actually went for that. I think they gauge it on what the locals would be willing to pay which is much lower than someone coming in from a more expensive country. Carini is not isolated, w/38,000 pop. and close to the capital, yet the cost of living is very low. You're right, I'm sure it's even lower in isolated places. Thank you for your great comment and food for thought. We appreciate you watching. 😊

Lovely to see you both. A very well presented video. It certainly is worth what you pay for the lifestyle and those incredible views 👌 I take it that it would cost much more in Texas ? Thank you for sharing 😊
@TheSicilianLife
2 ай бұрын
Thank you, Janet. 💞 I appreciate that. Yes, indeed, it definitely is worth it! Yes, it costs a lot more in Texas. I haven't done the side-by-side comparison yet (maybe idea for video). Utilities are mixed: some fixed, some on usage. The electric/gas is usage-based. Car insurance based on hp of vehicle. I know that our entire budget in Sicily is less than just our housing cost in Texas! 😯 It's insane how the cost of living has risen in the States. We appreciate you watching. 🥰

I've been constipating on Italy somewhere where it's not to cold in winter if they have a place like that there. Or some Asian country's where I can afford to live on retirement. I think there would be more for me to do in Italy as I could go see other countries really easily. But the Philippines or veitman or Thailand places like that would be cheaper. As I don't go to bars and party those places wouldn't be to bad as I do like all the foods there. And can live on a 1300 to 1500 retirement check a month. If I can do the same in Italy that would be. The way to go I think.as I'm really interested in all the midevil towns that have been there as early as the 12th century or even earlier. That's the winner for me for Italy

car insurance seems quite expensive, what is your cars worth approximately? My car in Finland is maybe 12000eur and full insurance is about 600-700eur/year.
@TheSicilianLife
Ай бұрын
Yeah, we kind of think it's high too. It's €75/month, but we paid for the year so it wouldn't be more. It's worth about €6,000 (estimate). So if it is damaged in a major way, we wouldn't repair, we'd probably just get another good used vehicle. 😊 Thanks for watching.

Did you have to give up USA citizenship to become citizens of Italy? I was told by social security that I would lose my social security if I didn't retain citizenship in the USA. However, I could live anywhere in the world I want. My current monthly income from social security is only $1002 a month. Losing my social security at 60+ would be scary. Can you please clarify your citizenship?
@TheSicilianLife
Күн бұрын
@clefnoteproductions6695, hi, I am a dual citizen of both the U.S. and Italy. U.S. does not make you give up citizenship when seeking Italian citizenship. There are some countries that do require that, but not with Italy. Since 1992, Italy has allowed dual citizenship with the United States, and you will not need to renounce your American citizenship during the process of applying. Yes, I can imagine that would be scary to potentially lose your Social Security. Thanks for watching. Blessings, ~ Carol Amato

Hi Lorna, Thank you for watching and for the comment. 😊 We are both Italian citizens so don't have Visas. Croce was born and raised here, and I applied many, many years ago for citizenship by marriage. For me, it was a 5-month process with ordering documents, sending things away to be "sealed" at the state capital, and then passport application, etc. It's not a fast process at all. But if you search the Italian Consulate website in your state, they will have all the info you need. There are many furnished apartments available. Watch my Home Tour video, and see what you can get for what price. Then I list all the websites to use to look for placed. Here's the link Home Tour: kzitem.info/news/bejne/jmOO0amHgJGKo6A You're welcome, Lorna. I appreciate it. 😍

900 for car insurance?! Why is that so much?
@TheSicilianLife
15 күн бұрын
@lynxlecher9547, it turns out to be about €75 per month, and it's based on the horsepower of the vehicle. I think the amount is similar to in the U.S. or maybe somewhat more compared to a company that gives discounts for multiple things insured like renter's insurance combined with it. Not sure why. We do appreciate you watching. 😊 Thanks for the comment/question. Blessings, ~ Carol Amato

Socialized medicine works great until you get sick with something half serious. Then the wait for exams starts, and if you don’t ‘know’ anybody you’re always at the end of the list. I’m Italian, born and raised there so I know what I’m talking about. I live in US and if I’m in Italy I always go private, which feels dirty cheap if you’re used to American ripoff prices 😅. In Europe there is also private health if you don't want to wait but, if you have serious health issues usually you don't have to wait months, you are going to be treated immediately. I started to have problems with my thyroid and the hospital gave me an appointment after six months so I went to a private specialist doctor, I didn't want to wait, I'm not rich and I could afford going to a specialist but, when I had blood coming from my uterus and because they thought it could be cancer, the hospital made all my exams and an operation all in two weeks, it wasn't cancer but just polyps and it was during COVID.
