I really enjoy this series, and will continue to do so. I do agree with some comments on here though, the episode didn’t really tackle or mention anything bad about drugs for cheating. It almost comes across that using them takes you to the edge, and that’s OK until you get caught. The message just felt...wrong. IMO, Maes suspension was very harsh and allowances could have been made given what I have read about the situation. Rude...really like the guy, and if he says his positive result was ingesting something from another riders water bottle, you have to consider that. Does leave doubt in my mind that one though, although he seems a straight up kid. As said though, the episode message was wrong. No doubt others will disagree. Subjective!

Anyone can say it was an accident which is the reason--I suspect--authorities did not go easy Martin Maes (tho 3 months is actually not too bad). When administrators take to leniency based on the excuse of accidental intake, anyone else who intentionally takes drugs may implore administrators on the premis that they "Didn't meant to do it." In the end I find that it really sucks for these 2 guys becaus I don't believe that either Maes or Rude meant to break rules. There is a silver lining though. The 2 people that got screwed happen to be 2 of the best riders in this sport......riders, who we know, will not be defeated by setbacks like these. Drugs were gonna eventually become an issue in this sport and I gotta say I'm pretty happy with how this whole affair turned out (all things considered). No one got permanently banned, both riders still choose to participate in the races, athletes spoke out against cheating, EWS did address fans and participants (albeit slowly in Rude's case), there isn't much bad blood between competitors.....i think. Then again who am I to judge this situation while I sit in bed with a jacked up collarbone watching videos? I'm hoping for the best for this sport and I have faith that for the love of shredding, the EWS will emerge from these incidents in a better state than it was when such issues first occured.

Drink an energy drink and you’ll fail a drug test. It’s that easy. I watched a video here on YT where several energy drinks and over the counter vitamin boosters (those small bottles you can get at convenience stores) were tested with dip testers, and they ALL tested positive for various drugs. That doesn’t mean they actually have those drugs in them; but they have substances that have close enough chemical structures to test positive. Of course it doesn’t speak well of the accuracy of the tests though.

@@LongbranchOlivetti, it's so small actually. It's counted in parts per billion. I was one of those flabbergasted and sick to my stomach when I heard about the news and I thought all of his winnings should be stripped from him including those 2 world titles... Well, after I heard that it was trace amounts and could actually be attributed to some contamination in a supplement or at this case a drink then I gave him the benefit of the doubt. The latest EWS results speak for itself. He's one hell of a rider and the best out there... Well, until Martin Maes returns. 🤷♂️ I know Martin Maes was a different case. Yeah, didn't see why it was titled "The Honest Truth" while talking about the "edge"...

It's pretty well documented at this point that Richie got it from Graves, who has been known to mix fat burners with his water (think Stacker 2 or something similar), which is just a concoction of chemicals. The point is he accidentally ingested something that although is on the banned list, at the end of the day made no difference in his performance. Now that WADA is present and vigilant I think a lot of the racers will be cleaning up their programs and it will be unlikely you see these guys getting busted now that they understand the program.

The question you have to ask yourself is, "if I were competing in the EWS, would I want to be racing against people who have a competitive edge through the use, mistakenly or on purpose, of performance enhancing drugs". If the answer to that is no then you can't argue against the suspensions. Frankly they got off quite lightly compared to most other sports. And if the answer to that was yes, you also have to agree that an independent body is required to officiate over it. One important thing to note it that WADA provide a list of alternative treatments/medicines to those which are banned, so there literally is no excuse for it.
