"The Horror at Martin's Beach" is a short story by H. P. Lovecraft and Sonia H. Greene, which first appeared in Weird Tales in November 1923. One of my favorite HPL collaborations. Thank you for posting. I would love to hear your treatment of "The Night Ocean," which HPL co-wrote wtih R. H. Barlow. As you probably know, it is his very last (and very best, in my opinion) collaboration.

I'm sure someone else pointed this out already, but this story is NOT by Lovecraft. It was written entirely by his wife, Sonia Haft Greene. The entire story is even in a more immature version of Lovecraft's style, and almost a cookie cutter copy of his plot formula.

Everyone mentions "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" as the inspiration for the Bloodborne fishing hamlet DLC, but I think this story is a more substantial influence, just with the mother and child's roles reversed.

I tend to be skeptical of (posthumous) collaborations, whether of Lovecraft's or most other authors' creations, but this was written in a very keen Lovecraftian style! And reminding me a bit of the fate of poor Grendel, it is once more an affirmation that there is nothing like a Mother's love.

I don’t mean to be rude at all because I love this channel and I really appreciate the work and creativity that goes into these videos, but I personally don’t like the tones in the background being quite so high pitched. It’s really distracting for me and kind of painful with headphones on. I like everything else though, including the other sounds. Please don’t change. (I hope that there are indeed high pitched tones going on in the background and I’m not just experiencing hearing loss)

It's a fair point, Alan. We mix our recordings wearing unbiased monitoring headphones, and as such, do everything we can to eliminate pesky frequencies - hearing is a subjective thing, though. If the demand is there, we might eventually produce alternative mixes of works *without* the harsher ambient pieces.

Hat down for the narrating effort. The story in itself, however, was pretty lame: predictable plot, formulaic language, no sense of cosmic (or any type of) fear, "laughable" (pun intended) ending. This is Lovecraft-lite at best. Thankfully, most of his own, non-collaborative stories are way better.

What? You don't even mention that Sonia Greene became Lovecraft's wife? She deserves a by-line, since it was Lovecraft who insisted that _she_ write the story. It should be worth at least a footnote.

@@HorrorBabble - Maybe you should read the comment again, and then listen to your own words. Nowhere do you mention that she was Lovecraft's future wife. That's the most significant thing about her, especially since she actually impacted his life and future work. I find it hard to believe that you didn't know this. But then, maybe you're just reading someone else's notes.
