tbh I'm genuinely curious what it takes to 'kill' a person in this world. Like, clearly some people pass on as spirit ashes, others remain as the ghosts we see around many locations in the game, and of course those who make it to the erdtree via the catacombs or warrior's graves. But on the other hand, most of the population who aren't Tarnished seem to be old and withered like you say. Does removing the rune of death somehow stop natural death, but dying in battle / to physical harm still affect you? Also I just remembered that the people in the lake at the start of the game are some kind of death cult which want Ahgeel to burn them to ash or something. What's with that? Does that have a different effect to dying in other methods? Such an interesting thing to explore tbh

I don’t think that vyke ever accepeted the three fingers with open arms. His armor shows the burn marks of the three fingers but to get to them you must discard yourself of all pieces of armor. I haven't embraced the frenzied flame but heard others say that the position of the fingermarks on his armor imply that he was facing away from the fingers when he was burned. So the player embraces the three fingers by stripping down and facing them, but Vyke was turned back towards the exit with his armor still on - which kind of makes it seem like he changed his mind as he stood before them, turned around to leave, but was grabbed from behind and burned nevertheless.

I think it's a shame Gostoc didn't have more of a role, but at the same time I really liked that he was a complicated character. He seemed sketchy AF and loots your corpse after you die but also talks fairly sound morals. Like, we as the player loot so many corpses, so it's hardly fair to judge him for looting our corpse. He doesn't even take all of our runes, just a third. He genuinely just seems like a guy trying to survive in a hell-castle. It's rare for a character to evoke feelings of guilt in a player when you kill them for stealing from you, but that's what I felt in my first playthrough when I killed him after hearing he stole your runes whenever you died. The most evil thing he does is lock you in that room with the banished knight, however, it's also not 100% clear if that was actually him or one of the other commoners lurking around that area. So yeah, I'd like to see more content involving him but I also don't want From-Soft to undermine his 'mostly good guy that seems like a bad guy' character. On another note, I do think From-Soft should design quests where you're rewarded for killing NPCs, or where quests continue from killing NPCs. In all their games so far it's just bad to kill NPCs because they've got a good chance of being involved in a quest later, haha.

I don't understand why every single Lore channel so uncritically buys in to the game's terrible execution of Godrick being some weak fool, that had to "resort" to grafting. As it is presented in the game, it is completely nonsensical and cognitively dissonant. How is what he does any different than what the player does? Also how exactly des somebody we are told was so weak and cowardly even manage to get to this point, anyway? How did he get an army? How did he get people to do his bidding? How did he take over Stormveil, if he was incompetent, and merely inherited a throne?
@VLimit11

Godrick is described as the "runt of the litter" by Enia and is repeatedly shown to be the weakest among the demigods, with Kenneth Haight's dialogue showing that he's pretty much a joke in the eyes of those with historical context. I know cut dialogue can't be used as concrete evidence, but even that shows that Godrick stutters and hesitates to even speak the names of his demigod relatives. To answer your questions, we can pretty easily assume that this all happened after he started grafting, since we know that it's a tradition of his lineage.
@bigdumbfatcat2869
Жыл бұрын
@@VLimit11 Nibba you are doing exactly the thing i just critisized, you are just taking the things said in-game at face value, without thinking about the nonsensical implications of them. Godrick isn't "shown to be the weakest", we are TOLD he is the weakest, repeatedly, to the point it's incredibly hamfisted. Even if we accept he is physically the weakest, so freaking what? Caesar wasn't some muscular Gigachad, he conquered with political and tactical prowess, with leadership. How did this weak, pathetic "joke" manage to run a kingdome and gather entire armies of men? There is nothing in-game indicating his men were under some Ebil manipulative spell, that Godrick lucked out on. He managed to organize armies that conquered land and defeated dragons, with loyal men behind him, even tho he is a joke? Also grafting was part of his lineage, yet said lineage is not weak and pathetic for using it, but Godrick himself is pathetic and weak for "resprting" to it? This is stupid LMAO. And why should we take what Kenneth says seriously? Yeah, so Godrick is some weak runt, literally surrounded by his loyal men, in the castle he took over, while Kenneth is begging for help alone on some rock, and has to send some lone Tarnished to liberate his tiny fort. But Godrick is somehow the runt, LMAO.
@nightscout9979

Godrick is indeed a weak fool, but many people miss the subtle theme that even his stronger relatives are guilty of some form of grafting or another. Malenia, a victim of the Scarlet Rot taking limbs and lives of other beings (emphasized by the Servants of Rot having so many hands), herself resorts to the outer god's influence, losing freedom and causing the ruin of Caelid and Elphael, as well as having "wings" of countless butterflies grafted to her (or perhaps being grafted to them). Mohg seeks the Formless Mother, murdering people to take their blood for his schemes and seeking her power, which comes with an addition of wings after Nihil. This also ties into the misbegottens and the omens, a mix of various limbs and horns that often grow in reckless, unhealthy manners, the result of the Crucible being grafted onto someone at birth, or perhaps the Formless Mother trying to graft people to her as a "body" of sorts. This theme doesn't require lineage to Godfrey either. Ranni's doll body has four arms, and she got this body from her scheme to murder demi-gods, most notably Godwyn, but she's also having to attach her soul to this doll, and she seeks a "fate" from the stars to attach to herself. However, looking at how these "fates" might work with Seluvis' heinous Starlight Shards potions, Ranni herself is basically losing her freedom to become a limb, a puppet, of the stars and their master, Nokron's black moon, which is likely her Dark Moon. Rennala's "patients", who are more like victims, lose their legs and eventually their very identities and minds, resembling disturbing copies of Rennala herself as she wields the Amber Egg. Rykard seeks power from a snake that effectively does what Godrick does, complete with body parts bursting out of it and gruesome remnants of Rykard's limbs similarly piercing its body. Even the ancient dragons display this, as the total number of dragons resembling Placidusax lodged into Farum Azula's walls might be five. If this is the case, then perhaps these dragons are Placidusax, or rather, Placidusax was five dragons "grafted" together, and it was only when Placidusax died entirely that they fully split again, scattered and lodged across and into the stones of the city. We know that Farum Azula is already a mausoleum for Placidusax, and with the time traveling elements of the city, it's possible that Placidusax can die from its wounds and be scattered without a player doing a time loop event of traveling back and killing Placidusax in combat. There's also the element of the blind demons of the Frenzied Flame seeking out people's afflicted eyes, and the Frenzied Flame is potentially trying to graft all beings onto it, erasing and preventing all life other than its empowered own. The Deathblight destroys souls and bodies to create pawns, even seen with the Fia's Champions boss fight, and the Regal Ancestor Spirit annihilates souls to empower and recreate itself in the boss fight, with the animal souls bearing the blue color used for slavery in this game, as seen with the "dolls" and the soul husks puppeteered by Fia's whims. Miquella arguably grafted himself to the Haligtree, or sought to graft it to himself to make him stronger, and he may have been "grafting" others to Elphael through the use of things like the Bewitching Branch. Even Godfrey experienced grafting, despite it being a way to weaken himself in that case, and for Marika it made him a better fit for being an Elden Lord. It's only when Godfrey rejects this grafting and returns to his true self that his full power is restored, along with showcasing the quality that made him famous in the first place, being great on his own. Finally, the various endings can be seen as grafting something onto the Elden Ring, or grafting the Elden Ring itself onto something. Overall, Godrick represents a core theme of Elden Ring, and everyone in the setting is willfully blind to the fact that he embodies all of their own worst deeds and inclinations.

@@nightscout9979 no. Malenia is cursed not blessed with the scarlet rot. She didn't have a choice and it doesn't make her stronger. Ranni just needed a host for her soul after killing her original body. Miquella planted himself in the tree that he made by himself. Though this actually is the most literal definition of grafting. Rykhard yes indeed grafted himself with the snake but he was also said to be an abomination. But basically the point is the others weren't just going around grafting themselves. Godrick just grafted himself to attempt to be more powerful. Where as Melania was cursed from birth. Ranni and miquella attempted to create a new order and a new age of the world. The two that grafted for just power are rykhard and godrick. They're just selfish and looked upon as failures and abominations. I mean Godfrey literally becomes weaker due to sharash, the same with melania
