OVERTURE FOR SPRINGTIME | Written in 1980, Alfred Reed’s “The Hounds of Spring” has quickly become a classic in the wind band repertoire. The work, inspired by the poem, “Atalanta in Calydon”, by Algernon Charles Swinburne, is composed in the traditional three part overture style. The piece opens and closes with a rambunctious romp and features a pastorale interlude in between.
